Well done to our competitors at last weekends TET at Mid Surrey PC. This is such a lovely friendly event and perfect for first timers so bear that in mind for next year.

Congratulations to Arabella Goodwin for coming 2^nd & Florence Goodwin 15^th in a very large U8 section. Arabella also won prizes for the best swim & best run, and both girls did lovely Clear Rounds. My sons were also successful with both boys winning their sections: notable in being the only boys to get Clear Rounds on the XC course.

CHANGE TO THE COMPETITION: Eridge Pony Club Tetrathlon

Unfortunately the PC are unable to use the park on Sunday 28th May, therefore are now running this competition as a tri. The shoot, swim and run will all take place at Freedom Leisure Centre, Crowborough. Anyone who wishes to ride and therefore compete in all four phases can do so as we can accommodate Under 8s, Mini Minis and Minis incorporating the ride with our ODE the following weekend Sunday 4th June.

Thursdays

There are weekly shooting practices at Taylor's Gun Club in East Court, every Thursday from 5.30pm until 7.30pm. Guns, pellets and targets are provided. Complete beginners are welcome as full training is given but please ring Margaret Allday (margaretallday41@gmail.com) first. Children must be 8 yrs old or over. There is a pool table too!

 

Fridays

There are weekly swimming practices on Friday evenings 6:15-7:15pm. They are run by Emily Miles (Bright) who is a past OS&B member, a medal winner at Junior & Senior World Championship level in Modern Pentathlon, and one of four National Pony Club Tetrathlon Mentors.

 

This swimming is now under the Area 11 umbrella, so open to any S.D.H.E. members that may wish to attend. If anyone wants to come Margaret, from OS&B, would be grateful if they could let her know as she needs to know names in advance in case there is a problem and she needs to contact them and save them a journey. Please book in with Margaret Allday (margaretallday41@gmail.com) first. Cost £9 for an hour's lesson.

Help needed at our Hunter Trial - 14th May - PLEASE! replies to Sally Harper

Subject. SDHE DAY OUT      VOLUNTEERS NEEDED to help with fence judging at the Working Hunter Trials on 14th May.    SDHE pony club is running the first cross country event of the year at Wivelsden and we need people to come and help.      We need people who are happy to come and sit by a fence in a deck chair in the beautiful spring sunshine.  No experience is needed as you will be given full instructions and we'll also provide you with refreshments to keep you going.  It's a great opportunity to grab a mate and have a catch up while you work or come and watch how the cross country course is jumped before ibefore you have a go yourself!       You don't have to do all day. We're happy to split mornings and afternoons so you could even do it around your classes, your mucking out, riding or it's a really good excuse to put off your housework or DIY....... Dear all,  yesterday I took part in the London Marathon - running for Arthritis UK - finishing in 3 hr 58 mins.  I ran for ARTHRITIS UK. JUST GIVING pages were down yesterday. It is up and running today!  Please donate what you can if you don't mind.  I'm still fundraising to reach my target! Whether arthritis affects you or your family/ friends or you are simply inspired by runners pushed to their absolute limits on a 26.2 mile course, every penny donated makes a difference!  I'm hobbling today but so glad I did it! Please donate what you can to improve the lives of those affected by arthritis.

working hunter fallies - from Helen Burgess

The season of shows is fast approaching us and therefore we will be offering a block of 3 rallies to cover WHP classes.  As you know we offer these classes at our branch show and they are available at other competitions. Although attendance in these classes is noticeably fewer over the past few years.  Therefore we'd like to introduce you to this discipline as not only does your horse/pony need to perform well on the flat, they also have to perform well in hand and jumping a course of natural fences.  There is an art to this and we are hoping over the 3 sessions we will be able to teach you and your pony that art.

The sessions are on the Thursday evenings on the 18th, 25th May and 1st June from 5.00PM to 6.00pm at South Brockwells Farm, Little Horsted.  Michelle is the instructor who spent many years competing and producing top class WHP.

18th May 2017 - Flat and in-hand
This session will work on trotting your pony up in-hand so you show the best parts of your pony to the judge.  Learning to make you pony stand correctly and producing a good show.


25th May 2017 - jumping phase
Going over what was learnt on session 1 and riding the natural fences.  Again learning how best for you and your pony to ride the course to gain maximum marks.  As this section gains the most points out of the 3 phases.

1st June 2017 - Completion of all 3 phases
Run through of all 3 phases with the possibility of a 2nd judge added to the mix.  With a small competition to see how you have progressed throughout the sessions

To gain maximum benefit from these sessions the numbers will be limited.  If the event is popular I am happy to organise more sessions.  Open to all ages and abilities.

As a branch we are lacking a Prince Philip Cup Team and are therefore going to be training on a Friday night from 5.30pm at Wivelsden Farm and South Brockwells Farm, Little Horsted alternating between the two venues.

So whatever your ability please come along. If a Friday evening is not the best night I'm happy to consider different days if it fits in with the majority.  We are just trying to get dates in the diary and teams back out competing.  Or just a fun evening for the kids that don't want to compete.

All horses and riders are to be immaculate in their turn out – clean ponies and clean plain tack (no bling!) Riders to wear pony club sweatshirt and tie, white shirt, beige jodphurs, boots and chaps, gloves and hairnets for the girls.  If your hat is not tagged, I can do it for you on the day.

 

Please do not leave ponies unattended tied up to boxes, and please clear up ALL droppings and any spilt hay. 

 

This rally is not a lesson in itself, but an assessment to see what standard you and your pony are at  in order to place you in the correct riding group at camp – it also gives us a chance to pair up people at similar standards and also a chance for you to meet fellow campers.  I hope you all have a fun time and look forward to seeing you on Saturday.

Hi Everyone    Great News - Home Farm have rang to offer the venue free of charge next Satuday 22nd April. How kind !!    Sadly though I still have 7 spaces for the XC Rally at Home Farm next Saturday. I have only had 8 Forms and Payment in and I can only put your name down in the list once I have received the payment.   Normanly unlike when we go to (Oakfields for example) the Pony Club doesn't pay for the venue if I cancel, but when we hire outside venues it is a shame not to fill the spaces as we still have to pay.    Please if you would like to come next Saturday I need to receive all forms and payment by Thurs am so I can allocate groups and times Thurs evening. Hi Everybody    I am so sorry for the delay in the times my fault but I am now back on Pony Club Mode !!    I have given everyone 15 minute slots where you will run through the eventing dressage test ( Don't worry I will be there to read it for you all ) and then the instructor will give you points on how to improve it and then you have a go at riding the test again. Senior Camp 2017

I will shortly be sending the forms to all members who have expressed an interest in attending Senior Camp 2017.  I have 52 Confirmed campers (who have paid the deposit) and 15 who have a status of Provisional (yet to pay the deposit).  Plumpton Racecourse can accommodate a maximum of 72 campers so those quick at mental maths will already see we have 5 spaces at this time so it's not too late to sign up.

Isabelle would love to come along to the Easter egg hunt on but unfortunately we haven't got transport. I don't suppose anyone is coming through Streat/Plumpton direction by any chance and would be able to pick us up.

IMPORTANT INFOMATION FOR THE DAY

 

We will start with a thorough tack check. Any loose stitching will need mending before riding starts so please can you check your tack, particularly stirrup leathers before the day. The children will do a bit of theory and they will need a pen and paper They will then walk and ride (on horses) the course which will be laid out. Afterwards a theory and practical test will be completed.

 

Ponies do not need to be plaited but must be SMARTLY turned out. This is an examination and the examiner will expect the candidates to be dressed as such, usual pony club attire (sweatshirts, cream jodhpurs, hair nets etc).  If you have them please bring pale gloves and any fluorescent items for the child and pony. Also a pen and paper. NO earrings or piercings.
