Hope everyone had a fab Christmas.

Just a reminder that our next rally is on 8th January at Plumpton College. All members are welcome - we have a C/C+ (but B test level riders also welcome) rally with Sonia Chittenden instructing followed by a mini/junior 'New Year's Resolutions rally with Esmee Emeny instructing.

polo taster session

Hi everyone,   I've been in contact with Oakwood Polo Club at Maresfield to arrange a polo taster session for our members riding the polo ponies based on site.    It has been suggested that the session is suitable to members age 12+ due to the physical strength needed to ride and swing the polo stick.     Before committing and booking I would like to gauge interest and need a minimum of 6, maximum of 12 riders attending. The cost will be £40/£50 depending on numbers and would likely take place on a Saturday afternoon.    Please text, message or email me if you are interested. Unmounted C standard theory rally

This unmounted rally is for members who are working towards their C test or who are wanting to improve their horse and pony care skills and knowledge but not take tests. It will be a theory session and Sonia Chittenden is instructing. The session will be held at one of our members houses in Upper Hartfield. The first session will start at 4pm and subject to numbers there will be either one or two sessions.

Notepads and pens required. Informal dress code – Christmas jumpers welcome!

Hat standards

With Christmas fast approaching, some of  you may be considering buying a new riding hat - good idea!

However, from 1st January 2023 hats bearing the standards PAS 015 1998 and SNELL 2001 will no longer be acceptable to Pony Club or other organisations such as BE - please check carefully when purchasing that hats are up to the new standards. This is due to the age of the hats made to this standard.

To manage the change, pink hat tags will be issued from 1st January 2023, This can be done at mounted rallies by myself or Anne Cook. Alternatively you are welcome to come to my home in Lindfield to have this done at a mutually suitable time.

Interbranch show jumping competition

East Sussex pc are hosting team and individual sj @ Golden Cross equestrian centre on 20th November if anyone would be interested in going? Team places will only be open to those that attend rallies/ training sessions and places will only be secured once payment has been received. Sonia Chittenden will decide teams and those not in a team can of course compete as an individual. We are limited on time to get the entries in so if your child is interested then please let me know by Monday 7th November at the very latest. Classes are from 60cm up to 1m. Hi all,     This is just a reminder of what's going during November and December.  Website bookings generally close a week before the rally so please get booked in asap. Morning all.

The estimated class times and drawn order are now available on SDHE website.

Sonia will be walking the course with the riders for each class so please be sure to arrive suggested half hour before your class starts in case we are running ahead of schedule.

X pole team, please meet Sonia at 8.15 to walk the course and then get warmed up as you are first to go.

60cm approx start time 10.15

70cm approx start time 12.45

80cm approx start time 14.30

90cm approx start time 16.15

Reminder to please plait ponies, clean plain tack, pc numnah or plain navy if you don't have one. Riders to wear beige/ light jods, boots and gaiters, white shirt with pc tie, hairnet, gloves and either a show or hacking jacket with pc badge please.

Pony Club Quiz

he Pony Club quiz is a great opportunity to test your equestrian knowledge and to compete at Area and National Level representing your branch.

The 2023 Pony Club Quiz will be back to being in person and will be having an Mini section and a Junior/Senior section.

Breen Equestrian visit Saturday 8th October

Breen Equestrian Yard Visit - Sat 8th Oct 10am. Please drop off your child/member at 9.50am as the tour starts at 10am prompt.

Myself and Michelle Beckett are the organisers and will accompany the tour. Please remember we are representing Southdown Hunt East and members need to be smart wearing Pony Club sweatshirts and suitable trousers and footwear for being on a stable yard. If the weather permits we will be walking the Hickstead Derby Bank.

Breen Equestrian visit - bookings open

This will be a talk and tour of their horses, facilities and a walk onto the Hickstead Showground. 10am to 11.30am. Members will need to make their own way to Breen Equestrian where we will meet together for the tour. Spaces are limited to 15 members only. Please drop your member(s) at the entrance to the yard where you will be met by the SDHEPC organisers.

Visit to Breen Equestrian 8th October

We have arranged a visit to Breen Equestrian on Saturday 8th October, 10am to 11.30am.

This will include a tour of the yard, with the opportunity to see some of their horses both at rest and being exercised. We will be given a talk by the Yard Manager, Aneta Biderman and weather permitting she will take us onto the Hickstead Derby Bank.

There are 15 spaces available on a first come, first served basis. There is no charge but members will need to make their own way to Breen Equestrian, where we will meet as one group for the tour. 

Tickets will be available soon on the SDHEPC website for booking.

Flatwork rally this Sunday at Alderlake

dressage/Flatwork Rally - Sun 25th Sept at Alder Lake - Groups and Timings

Here are the groups and timings for Sunday's rally. Polly Thom is instructing.

Please arrive in good time for the start of the rally as we have to be very prompt with our start and finish at Alder Lake.

Please wear correct Pony Club uniform - shirt and tie or navy Pony Club polo shirt or sweatshirt, beige, cream or white jodhs and black or navy hat silk. Please bring a schooling whip if you have one.

Please do not tie haynets outside the trailers/lorries and clean up any droppings.

Flatwork rally 25th September

Dressage / Flatwork Rally Sunday 25th Sept at Alder Lake Farm - a few spaces remaining.

We are running 3 groups at Alderlake next Sunday and there are a few spaces left. All levels are welcome. Tickets will close on Monday so we can allocate groups and times so please book on asap.

Polly Thom is instructing and please do try and attend if you are wanting to be considered for the Area Dressage Competition next July.

Show jumping competition 16th October at Golden Cross

This is a final call for all those interested in taking part in our Show jumping competition @ Golden Cross on the 16th October.

Sonia makes the decision regarding the team selection and all those not in a team can compete as an individual. All those in a team automatically count as individuals too.

It is fantastic to see so many of our riders wanting to take part and represent our pony club.

Sonia will decide teams etc in the next week so please let me know by Monday at the latest. Payment then needs to made no later than the 30th September to guarantee your child's place in the competition.

We will also need to know show names for your pony/ horse so please either reply to: katieandaiden@hotmail.com or you can WhatsApp me ( I sometimes don't receive text's).

Also we need as much help as possible on the day so if you can spare a couple of hours it would be hugely appreciated, we can't run these events without the help of volunteers. Children welcome to help too, they make great poo pickers and helping put jumps back up! Please email Candy with any offers.
