Hickstead teams - replies to Candy or Emily as appropriate

I now have the schedule for the inter-branch show jumping being held at Hickstead on 6th August 2016

 

Class 1:  70cm Teams: Riders 11 years and under on 1^st January 2016. Jumps approx.. 70cm in the first round.  Combinations not to have competed in Novice level or above at Area show jumping or horse trials.

 

 

Class 2:  80cm Teams: Riders 14 years and under on 1^st January 2016. Jumps approx..   80cm in the first round.  Combinations  not to have competed in Novice level or above at Area show jumping or area horse trials.

 

 

Class 3:  90cm Teams: Jumps approx.. 90cm in the first round. Combinations not to have competed at Intermediate level or above at Area show jumping  or Area horse trials,  or been placed  in the Open class.

 

 

Class 4: 1m Teams:  Limited to 2 associate members per team. Jumps approx.. 1m in the first round.

 

 

 

 

The 70cm teams will run on grass, the 80cm and 1m teams will run in the polo all weather arena

and the 90cm Teams will run in the new all weather arena.

 

90cm and 1m classes will start at 8.00, the 70cm class at 9.00 and the 80cm class will follow after the 1m class has completed.

 

The team event will incorporate an individual competition.

 

First round:  All teams will jump in drawn order and will be timed in case of later tied results

Second round: All teams on a 0 score will nominate 1 member to represent the team for final team placing. This member must have gone clear in the first round.

The rest of the competitors who jumped clear in the first round will jump a second round to establish individual places.  This will be jumped in the original drawn order.

Teams in each class are restricted so therefore places in teams will be limited and subject to balloting.

 

 

 

 

Team selections are being held on Friday 3rd June  at Felbridge showground

 

70cm teams -   names to Emily Pincus and will cost £7.50 to book the place + £10.00 cash on the day for the hire of the arena

 

 80cm, 90cm and 1mt names to Candy Robbins and will cost £7.50 to secure the place + another £10.00 cash on the day for the hire of the arena.

 

  Places will be limited and will be given on a first come first served basis with rally forms being posted to the organiser and accompanied by the £7.50 payment. If you need to pay by BACS please do this and then post a copy of the BACS receipt along with the rally form.

 

 

A place will not be given until the rally form and payment in full has been received.

Once the rallies are full a cancellation list will be put in place.

Dear All

This year the Area Eventing competition will take place on June 26 at Bonfleur.

The two qualifying classes are - Novice (90/95cm) and Intermediate (100/105cm). To be eligible for these classes the combination MUST have completed a minimum of 3 rallies since July 2015 and have experience eventing at the level you are wanting to enter. 

There is also an 80/85cm class which is open to all.

C+/B training

Hi everyone.
I'm writing to everyone who is aiming for either their c+ or b tests.  Hazel has very kindly offered to co-ordinate these rallies in preparation for these examinations.  As you can imagine this takes planning and time to organise!
Please come and join in with these rallies, you don't have to do the test but at least you can see what it involves and you never know you may change your mind!! We would love to see more candidates going forward to these tests and achieving what you all deserve.
The idea is to run a course of varied rallies and also some stable management evenings to get everyone up to the standard necessary.  Please let Hazel know if you want to put your name down or e mail me on pollythom@hotmail.co.uk if you have any questions.  
Please don't feel you have to do the test, we would just like to see some new faces!  We will aim to put on a test in the late summer/Autumn.  If we don't have enough candidates I will liase with another branch to make sure a test happens.  Therefore please come forward if you want to do either of these tests, as we will only put tests on if we have candidates!

We still need help painting our cross country jumps at Wivelsden.  Our hunter trials is on 15 May and we want the course to look good! Ride and Road Safety Day - Tuesday 31st May

Road Rider Achievement Badge/Test

Mini Road Badge. Everyone that is taking their D test. 

Riding & Road Safety Achievement Badge. Everyone who has done their D+ needs to do this badge before they can take their C test.

Road Rider Test. Everyone who has done their C needs to do this badge before they can take their C+ test. You must also have taken your road achievement badge and be over 12. 

Mini badge from 9.30 to 11am MAX 8 (poss 16) 

R&RS  Achievement from 11.30 to 4pm Cost £20. MAX 8

Road Rider Badge 9.30am - 1.30pm Cost £25.  MAX 8

If you would like to be added to either list please could you let me know what level.

Both sessions will start with a thorough tack check. Any loose stitching will need mending before riding starts so please can you check your tack, particularly stirrup leathers before the day. The children will do a bit of theory and they will need a pen and paper. They will then walk and ride the course which will be laid out. Afterwards a theory and practical test will be completed.
Ponies do not need to be plaited but must be SMARTLY turned out. These sessions are examinations and the examiner will expect the candidates to be dressed as such, for the Achievement badge they should be in usual pony club attire (sweatshirts, cream jodhpurs, hair nets etc) For the Road Test jacket and ties please when being tested. If you have them please bring pale gloves and any fluorescent items for the child and pony. Also a pen and paper. Please do not buy anything you will not use again just let me know and I am sure we can borrow what is needed. NO earrings or piercings.

Cost Achievement Badge £20 / Road Test £25. Please complete a rally form and pay by chq or BACS. (Please email once sent) First people to complete both form and payment will get a place first.

Tetrathlon

Well done to all those who competed at the Mid Surrey TET on Sunday. After the initial snow (!) the weather was very kind to us. I would recommend this event to anyone thinking of trying Tetrathlon in the future. It is a very friendly & helpful event. It is also very easy to get to as straight up the M23, then jct 8 of M25 – it took my 50mins from my house in Wivelsfield.The jumping for the under 8s is cross poles in an arena and the XC for the other classes is very kind with plenty of alternatives. Ethan Collins on Harry got around clear at his first proper XC at Mini Boys level (under 12 years) which is up to 80cm. However, at Mid Surrey most of the course was 60cm with only a few larger or more difficult fences which had alternatives. Riders can always opt to jump a smaller size course, which is the class below them, for a small penalty: this is quite common especially for riders who have just moved up an age bracket.

August 11^th-14^th – TET championships, Bishops Burton

Sept 3th & 4^th  - Romney Marsh

SDHWest run a TET in September at Hickstead but no date as yet.

 

 

We are still joining OS&B Pony Club for there shoot training swim training at Cumnor House School is now run by Area11.

 

Tuesdays

There are weekly shooting practices at Taylor's Gun Club in East Court, every Tuesday from 5.30pm until 7.30pm. Guns, pellets and targets are provided. Complete beginners are welcome as full training is given but please ring Margaret Allday (via Nicky Collins) first. Children must be 8 yrs old or over. There is a pool table too!

 

Fridays

There are weekly swimming practices on Friday evenings 6:15-7:15pm. They are run by Emily Miles (Bright) who is a past OS&B member, a medal winner at Junior & Senior World Championship level in Modern Pentathlon, and one of four National Pony Club Tetrathlon Mentors.

 

This swimming is now under the Area 11 umbrella, so open to any S.D.H.E. members that may wish to attend. If anyone wants to come Margaret, from OS&B, would be grateful if they could let her know as she needs to know names in advance in case there is a problem and she needs to contact them and save them a journey. Please book in with Margaret Allday (margaretallday41@gmail.com ) first. Cost £9 for an hour's lesson.

There are classes ( team & individual) at the following levels:

 

1. Open - the PC Open dressage test 2015 2. Intermediate - the PC intermediate dressage test 2013 3. Novice - the PC novice dressage test 2009

 

These classes are qualifiers for the PC dressage championships to be held in Cheshire in August.

 

To be eligible to be considered you must adhere to the 3 rally rule.

 

Please email me with expressions of interest and the level that you would like to be chosen to ride at.

 

Polly Thom and I can then look in more detail as to whom we enter for which classes.

 

Our teams did very well last year at novice level and came home with lots of rosettes. It would be fantastic if this year we can send both a novice and intermediate team.

Combined Training - 2nd May at Plumpton - CANCELLED

Sadly our Combined Training Event planned for Bank Holiday Monday (2nd May) at Plumpton Racecourse has now been CANCELLED because we didn't attract enough entries to make the event viable, Cheques will be shredded and any entries paid by BACS refunded. Let's hope it warms up in time for everyone to come out and support the Hunter Trials on 15th May.

Hi Everyone    I am organsing a C test rally this Saturday 30th April.     I only have 5 members this time but I hope lots more of you will come forward to complete the course and then Polly will try and arrange a Test for a weekend in September if we have enough members to take it.    Dates aranged are.    Saturday 30th April     Wednesday 1st June    Saturday 16th July     Of Course Training will continue at Senior Camp !!    Tuesday 9th August    I will then arrange a TEST RUN THROUGH day a week or so before the actual test.    Not all members want to take tests ( My Daugther is one of them ) but really enjoys coming to the training so please don't feel that You Have To Take The Test just come along and increase you knowledge, which can only be good for both your pony and yourself. Combined Training on Monday CANCELLED

 

CANCELLATION OF COMBINED TRAINING 2ND MAY 2016

 

Dear All,

 

It is with regret that we write to inform you that we have today had to make the decision to cancel the planned Combined Training event on the 2nd May 2016 at Plumpton Racecourse.

 

Regrettably, we have had to make this hard decision based on a number of unforeseen circumstances.

 

For those who have entered and have already paid either with a BACS transfer or cash I will arrange your refunds within the next few days. For those who have sent payment by cheque I will securely shred those immediately.

 

Once again, we apologise for any disappointment that this decision may have caused, but hopefully we look forward to seeing lots of you on the 15th May at the Hunter Trials at Wivelsden Farm.

Camp setting rally reminder for those wanting to go to any of the camps

On behalf of the camp committee, please can I remind any one hoping to go to one of the camps this summer, that is a condition of going to camp that you attend a camp standard setting rally so that you can be assessed and put in to the correct group for your riding ability.  In addition you will need to have attended 2 mounted working rallies in this current year, ideally on the horse you are hoping to take to camp.

Wedneday 1^st June is the next available  setting rally and a limited number of spaces at the remaining rally on Saturday 25^th June. Both of these are being held at Chelwood Equestrian and cost £12.50. To book, please post me a completed rally booking form and your payment. (If paying by BACS please attach a copy of the transaction with your rally form.)

Whilst camp may seem a way off, it isn't  from an organising point of view and we do want to accommodate all of you wanting to go to camp.  If you need any help or have questions with this, please contact me.

Senior camp - error on fees due

Senior camp fees:

There is a typing mistake on the covering letter for Senior Camp payment.

The deposit is £75.00 followed by payment in full of £300.00 (not £350!)  Alternatively the £300 payment can be split in to 2 x payment of £150.00

Area team show jumping

The Area 11 Team Qualifier is being held on Sunday 3rd July at Felbridge Showground

All horses/ponies must have genuinely participated at a minimum of 3 working rallies since 1^st July in the previous year, one of which must have been in the current year.  Riders must also have the above criteria and also to have been a member of the Pony Club since at least the 28^th February in the current year.

 

Class 1: Open  First round 1.10m    Second round 1.15m

 

Class 2: Intermediate    First round 1.00m    Second round 1.05m

 

Combination of horse and rider are not eligible if; they have completed an Open Area SJ or above in previous years; achieved one double clear in BS or SJI competitions where any of the fences were above 1.10 in the first round; been placed 1^st – 6^th in the individual competition at the Intermediate Championships in SJ; represented any Branch at the Intermediate SJ Championships on two occasions; horses are not eligible if they are currently registered with the BS/SJI in grades A or B or JA or have been registered in these grades in the previous two years,

 

Class 3:  Novice   First round  .90m   Second round  .95m

 

Only 1 member holding their B test may be included in a Team.

Riders are not eligible if they have completed Open Area level or above in SJ or Eventing in the current year or have done so in previous years; achieved one double clear in BS or SJI competitions where any of the fences were above 1.00m in the first round.

Horses are not eligible if they are currently registered with the BS in grades A or B or JA or the SJI equivalent or have been registered in these grades in the previous two years.

Combinations of horse and rider are not eligible if they have; been placed 1^st – 6^th in the individual competition at the Novice Championships in SJ; represented any Branch at the Novice SJ championships on two occasions; completed at Intermediate or Open Area level or above in eventing or show jumping in the current year of have done so in previous years.

Class 4:  Pony Club Grassroots Qualifier     First Round 80cm  Second round 80cm + 2 fences @85cm

Open to any age member and any size horse/pony…  Rider must not have previously represented their branch at Novice level or above in dressage, show jumping or eventing.  Combination of horse and rider not to have any BSJA recorded results @ 90cm or above

If you are interested in putting your name forward for team selection  and meet the above criteria for your chosen class please e-mail me by 10^th May.

The team selection  itself will take place on Friday 3^rd June at Felbridge (half term)– I have booked the grass arena so that will be good practise for this event.  To reserve a place please send your payment of £7.50 to me and bring a further £10.00 cash on the day for the hire of the arena – places are limited and will only be given once a completed rally form and payment has been received via post (e-mailed forms will not be accepted.  If you pay by BACS, you will need to include a copy of the BACS transaction with your rally form, again e-mailed copies will not be accepted)

Hi Everyone.

If anyone would like to come on Sat 30th April I MUST HAVE a rally form and money by Sat 23rd April.

I only have 1 paid up member at the moment and Hazel has noone for C+/B, we are running these on the same day and venue. We will have to Cancel if there isn't enough members to fill the spaces.

Essentail camp standard setting rallies for all camps

Following previous reminders, there are some potential campers who have not as yet put their name down to attend one of the camp standard setting rallies . Please can I urge you to do so asap. as groupings and assessors need to be sorted.

There are a limited number of places left on the 25^th June at Chelwood Equestrian and these will be given on a first come, first serve basis.  At the moment there are more places for 1^st June, also at Chelwood Equestrian – this is during the half term break, so if you are deciding between the two dates, please could you go for the 1^st June.

SDHE Combined training and clear round jumping event

Southdown Hunt East are hosting a combined training competition and clear round jumping day at Plumpton Racecourse on Monday 2^nd May 2016.  Classes start at 40cm and go up to 90cm so there is something for all of our members to do, whatever their ability.

This  is a good opportunity to practise dressage and jumping on grass ready for the summer season.

Entries close on 23^rd April so come on Mums (and Dads!) get those entries in and support our event that raises income for our branch and keeps the price of rallies down as well as buying equipment for our members to use and enjoy.

I am hoping to set up some regular stable management rallies for those working towards their C+ or B tests. I am thinking a weekday evening would work best and I am aiming to hold at least one a month. Each session will cover a specific topic which will enable members to read up in advance and bring along anything they might find useful.

Camp setting rallies

Please could all those who have asked for spaces on the 1^st and 25^th June camp rallies send me their completed rally forms and payment! 

 

Anyone who has not yet booked one of the above standard setting rallies, please do so asap., so we can accommodate all of you wanting to go to one of the camps.

 

It is a condition of going to camp that one of these standard setting rallies is attended so that you can be assessed and put into the correct riding ability group.  In addition you will need to have attended a further 2 mounted working rallies in this current year ideally on the pony that you are taking to camp.

 

All rally forms are to be posted or hand delivered, NOT E-MAILED!  If paying by BACS please remember to attach a copy of the transaction with the form to support payment and to make the job of myself and Mike, our treasurer, much easier.

The camp booking forms themselves will be with you very shortly and again will need to be returned in full by post or hand.  Senior camp itself involves 14 forms to be returned x 72 campers and that is far too much printing for me to do!

Picnic Ride tomorrow

Hi all

 

The picnic ride at Firle park tomorrow will start at 11am.  Parking is at the top of the park to the right hand side in front of Firle Place.  We will do the ride then come back to the trailers have our picnic and the children can either have a play of football, rounders or on the swings in Firle park.

POSTPONED Felcourt - 7th April from Nicky Collins

Cross Country Rally Thur 7th - POSTPONED due to more rain & ground too wet. Felcourt are very sorry but with recent heavy rain and more forecast the ground is still too wet and just isn't getting a chance to dry out.

 

Felcourt XC course have offered us Sat 14th May 10am start as before (as a replacement day) which could be a good warm up before our Wivelsden Hunter Trial. There is already a rally booked for Thur 2nd June in half term. If you would like to move your booking to one of these dates please email Nicky on nicky.collins@waitrose.com. Also if you are unable to attend these dates then please email and I will destroy your chq. Those who have paid by BACS will need to contact the treasurer, Mike Nichols.
