Well done to Ellie Taylor who put in a good effort last weekend to come 7^th in the Junior girl section at OS&B TET. Congratulations to my son who won his section.

For those new to TET the Mid Surrey event on 23^rd April is a very good starting event with an enclosed area for the 10&under classes and lots of options on the XC course. Both my sons will be there. Join us!

We are still joining OS&B Pony Club for there shoot training swim training at Cumnor House School is now run by Area11.

 

Thursdays

There are weekly shooting practices at Taylor's Gun Club in East Court, every Thursday from 5.30pm until 7.30pm. Guns, pellets and targets are provided. Complete beginners are welcome as full training is given but please ring Margaret Allday (margaretallday41@gmail.com) first. Children must be 8 yrs old or over. There is a pool table too!

 

Fridays

There are weekly swimming practices on Friday evenings 6:15-7:15pm. They are run by Emily Miles (Bright) who is a past OS&B member, a medal winner at Junior & Senior World Championship level in Modern Pentathlon, and one of four National Pony Club Tetrathlon Mentors.

 

This swimming is now under the Area 11 umbrella, so open to any S.D.H.E. members that may wish to attend. If anyone wants to come Margaret, from OS&B, would be grateful if they could let her know as she needs to know names in advance in case there is a problem and she needs to contact them and save them a journey. Please book in with Margaret Allday (margaretallday41@gmail.com) first. Cost £9 for an hour's lesson.

Ride & Road Safety

Ride & Road Safety

 

With spring and summer fast approaching (yay) tests begin to take place. Pony club recently have made several changes to what is required before you can take some tests. One change is to when ride and road safety awards are taken. 

 

If you are starting out and are looking to take your D test the mini achievement badge is required. 

 

In order to take the C test children who have completed their D+ need to take (and pass) their Road Safety achievement badge.

All awards will involve an unmounted session, mounted training and then for the achievement badge (not mini), a test. 

 

If your child needs to complete these awards please contact me so I can compile a list. 

 

We have 2 dates secured and places will be limited so please get forms and payment back to me asap.

Looking at the joys and challenges of parenting teens in the family vehicle (via a small car rig) the production company want to film families in their cars going about their everyday lives. They are looking for fun families with at least one child aged 13+ and you must be a car owning family. Filming is due to take place in April 2017. Branch sweatshirts: Can anyone help please?

For the last few years Charlotte Russell has very kindly managed the sale of sweatshirts on behalf of the branch.  This entails holding stock, ordering from the manufacturers as required, and handling sales to our membership.  For those who don't know, Charlotte's mother, Toni Russell, was the DC back in the noughties but both Toni and Rodney have now sadly passed away.   Charlotte has recently moved house and she no longer has the space to hold the stock.

Is anyone willing to take over from Charlotte?  It's not the most onerous task but it does really help the members and it keeps everyone looking smart and well turned out.

If you want to know more I'm sure Charlotte will be happy to explain.

Vixengrove rally on Wednesday - from Melanie Cammies

Dear All,    Vixengrove Rally today - Wednesday 15.02.17    If anyone is missing a lead rope Isobel Dean borrowed one from a trailer to walk her dog thinking she knew the owner but it belongs to someone else.  Please let me know if you are missing one and I'll try to reunite to the real owner.    It was a lovely rally today with you all looking so smart  and riding well even though it was cold however, we were lucky to just miss the rain.    There is an all ages/all standards mounted rally at Plumpton College on Sunday 5th March so do book in early if you are keen to come as I have to cancel hours booked at least a week before with the College - better to have your name down early than be disappointed not to be included. Few rules to take note of:

Horses must not be left unattended tied to trailers/lorry.

No haynets or haybags to be tied outside of vehicles.

All dogs must be kept on leads at all times.

Please clear up all droppings, hay and litter from the lorry park.

Please ensure all ponies and riders are turned out immaculately. Ponies must be clean, with clean tack and a plain numnah (black, white, blue or brown). Riders to be in beige jobs, clean boots/chaps, shirt, Pony Club tie and hacking jacket. Hairnets for girls and gloves for all. No "Bling" please!

Few rules to take note of:

Horses must not be left unattended tied to trailers/lorry.

No haynets or haybags to be tied outside of vehicles.

All dogs must be kept on leads at all times.

Please clear up all droppings, hay and litter from the lorry park.

Please ensure all ponies and riders are turned out immaculately. Ponies must be clean, with clean tack and a plain numnah (black, white, blue or brown). Riders to be in beige jobs, clean boots/chaps, shirt, Pony Club tie and hacking jacket. Hairnets for girls and gloves for all. No "Bling" please!

Please remember to thank the organisers before you go home!

Eventers Rallies

Hi Everyone

Sorry this email has taken a while but venues and days have had to be changed.

Firstly I would like to say I have been investigating the possibilty of me taking you all Arena Eventing in Feb but it isn't to be. The venues that have courses set up are busy on the days I can do but the main problem has been the cost. I know we do lots of fundraising to help pay for venues, instuctors ect but the cost is huge !. I would love to hear from any of you who would be willing to pay £25 an Hour with 4/5 members in the class at the same time. I feel the money would be better spent going XC once the weather improves but Please email me your thoughts and if enough of you are willing to pay the costs I will go ahead and book somewhere later in the year.

Back to the Eventers Rallies. I have an Inset Day now in the school I work at in West Sussex on Friday 17th Feb so there is now to be 2 rallies so this should cover both West and East Sussex Half Term.

I hope lots of you have been to the flatwork rallies Jo Reffin is running and she can tell me how everyone is getting on.

The Eventer Rallies will both run in the same format concertrating on jumping using poles and jumping excerises ( Sadly I remember Sarah trying these kind of pole/jump work out on my youngster years ago Guns was put down summer 2015 aged 26 !! )  now you will see lots of acticles in the Horse magazines about how good they are both for your horse and you.

Date  - Friday 17th and Friday 24th Feb
Venue - Oakfields, Crawley Down, RH10 4NL ( I will use venues all round the SDHE area but due to circumstances this was the best option for the 2 dates in Feb )
Time  - PM
Price  - £7.50

I would love to see lots of you and if like me (West Sussex School Members) you have an Inset day on the 17th please feel free to come to both.
These rallies do cater for all members from Dinkies through to those jumping massive!
I would also like to point out YOU DO NOT ever have to event your pony to come and join in we will only pick members who show an interest for the teams and Noone will ever get forced to compete.

After these two I will book a couple of XC Schooling Rallies and then I am hoping to arrange 2 full days where the members will practice Dressage, Show Jumping and XC all on the same day like the ODE,s are.

The venue of the first camp standard setting rally on Saturday 29th April has changed and this will now be held at Plumpton College - nothing else has changed. Please post or hand deliver your rally forms and payment to me as normal and the spaces available will go to those forms correctly recieved.

Invitation to Summer Camps 2017

Please find attached an invitation to attend one of our summer camps at Plumpton Racecourse.

There is no booking form as such - your will receive many forms to complete in due course if you are coming.  All I need is an e-mail or text to say you want to come and places are provisional until the non-refundable deposit is paid and membership renewed.  This is all explained in the attachment.

Invitations to the Senior Camp briefing on Tuesday 21st February have been sent separately.

Thank you to all those who are ahead of the game and have renewed their membership for 2017.  Memberships are due for renewal on 1st February and I will soon be sending another reminder to those I have not heard from.
