Attention Senior Campers

Hi All,

 

Senior Camp is fast approaching so I thought I would give you some advance notice of a change in our usual process.

 

As most of you know, when you arrive at Camp we undertake a pretty stringent tack checking process. In recent years any failures on stirrup leathers, girth straps etc have been whisked off over night to a tame saddler who has then worked all night to get them repaired.

 

Unfortunately, our tame saddler is not so tame this year and has organised a holiday the very week of Camp!! With this in mind could I remind all or you to give you tack a thorough check over, checking all stitching etc is in good condition. With us not having a saddler available this will mean that if any tack fails inspection it will be rejected and not allowed into Camp. Therefore, it will be down to yourselves to either source replacements or have the offending item repaired. Obviously, if this is not carried out promptly you will be unable to ride all the while the item is missing.

 

Thank you all for your attention in this matter and if there are any other changes I will let you all know immediately.

Pony Club evening at Windmill Saddlery

Windmill Saddlery at Cross In Hand are very kindly putting on a late night shopping evening for Pony Club members on Thursday 14th July and will be offering 20% discount on many items. This is an ideal time to purchase items needed for camp i.e. jodphurs, boots, saddlesoap, shampoo etc.

You will need to take some sort of ID to prove you are a PC member, such as your camp confirmation letter, spurs card (if you are entitiled to one), rally card.....

As well as buying goods at a discounted rate, it is also a very sociable evening for excited campers to meet up and of course you have to go via Mcdonalds drive through to make the evening complete!

The parking is NOT in our driveway but through the gateway on the same side as our house about 200 metres before or after our house depending on your direction of travel. It is very close to the speed signs on the road.

 

You turn straight off the road through an open gate way ( old wooden gate says Whiteoaks) and then immediately left through another gate. It is tight so please take it slowly. 

 

Any concerns about directions please get in touch before hand. Do not rely solely on postcode and sat nav as we share with all properties on lewes rd.

These sessions are examinations and the examiner will expect the candidates to be dressed as such, for the Achievement badge they should be in usual pony club attire (sweatshirts, cream jodhpurs, hair nets etc) For the Road Test jacket and ties please when being tested. If you have them please bring pale gloves and any fluorescent items for the child and pony. Also a pen and paper. Please do not buy anything you will not use again just let me know and I am sure we can borrow what is needed. NO earrings or piercings.

Please could you arrive in plenty of time for your allocated slot and be mounted ready to rock 'n roll! The rallies are all being held in the outdoor arena.

 

Chelwood Equestrian is located on the road between Nutley and Chelwood Gate and the entrance is on the right hand side, on the sharp bend about .5 mile from the Chelwood Gate end, and signposted Chelwood Farm. Drive slowly down the lane, keep to the right and the farm is through the double wooden gates. Lorry parking is behind the main buildings (lots of room!)

Once mounted, come back to the wooden gates at the entrance, bear left beside the barn usually housing a large horse lorry, down the slope to access the school.

 

All horses and riders are to be immaculate in their turn out – clean ponies and clean plain tack (no bling!) Riders to wear pony club sweatshirt and tie, white shirt, beige jodphurs, boots and chaps, gloves and hairnets for the girls.  If your hat is not tagged, I can do it for you on the day.

 

Please do not leave ponies unattended tied up to boxes, and please clear up droppings and any spilt hay. 

 

This rally is not a lesson in itself, but an assessment to see what standard you and your pony are at  in order to place you in the correct riding group at camp – it also gives us a chance to pair up people at similar standards and also a chance for you to meet fellow campers.  I hope you all have a fun time and look forward to seeing you next Wednesday.

We are still joining OS&B Pony Club for there shoot training swim training at Cumnor House School is now run by Area11.

 

Tuesdays

There are weekly shooting practices at Taylor's Gun Club in East Court, every Tuesday from 5.30pm until 7.30pm. Guns, pellets and targets are provided. Complete beginners are welcome as full training is given but please ring Margaret Allday (via Nicky Collins) first. Children must be 8 yrs old or over. There is a pool table too!

 

Fridays

There are weekly swimming practices on Friday evenings 6:15-7:15pm. They are run by Emily Miles (Bright) who is a past OS&B member, a medal winner at Junior & Senior World Championship level in Modern Pentathlon, and one of four National Pony Club Tetrathlon Mentors.

 

This swimming is now under the Area 11 umbrella, so open to any S.D.H.E. members that may wish to attend. If anyone wants to come Margaret, from OS&B, would be grateful if they could let her know as she needs to know names in advance in case there is a problem and she needs to contact them and save them a journey. Please book in with Margaret Allday (margaretallday41@gmail.com ) first. Cost £9 for an hour's lesson.

Felcourt XC rally – Thursday 2nd June from 2pm

 

The XC rally is suitable for those jumping 70cm and under. Most of the jumps are small and inviting but there are a few skinny fences and angles. The time has been moved to the afternoon for anyone wishing to go to Melanie's rally in the morning and then onto Felcourt after lunch.

Hunter Trials

I would like to thank everyone who helped at the hunter trials at Wivelsden last Sunday. It was a great success and we had record entries.   We can't run these events without your help so please do keep volunteering.   Our next event is the CDMS Horse Trials on 5th June. Entries close next weekend so if you want to compete at this event, please get your entries in this week.   We will need a lot of helpers  at this event so an email will be going out soon. Hi Everyone

The next two C test rallies are

Wed 1st June - 1pm and 2pm slot Chelwood Gate Equestrain Centre £10

Sat 16th July - PM - Oakfields Crawley Down - This will be for 2hrs - £12.50 if i have enough members wishing to do the rally.

I really hope lots of can make like last time. Remember you do not have to take the test just come to improve your knowledge.

I have received a cheque in the post to day for £12.50 in the name of Mrs P. Hutchinson.  No rally form enclosed and we don't have a member with the surname of Hutchinson. 

If this cheque relates to anyone, please can you contact me so I can work out to what it refers - probably a rally, but don't know which one, or who for! 

Bit of a randon request, but wouldn't like to think a child will be disappointed at not having a place at a rally as nothing to tie this up with.  Thankyou

Team selection rally - groups with Candy

I have been inundated with members for the team selection rally on 3rd June at Felbridge. On the basis of first come, first served (and paid!) my groups are all FULL. (These are for those jumping 2'6 and above) I can operate a cancellation list but with no promises.
