Pony Club Trip to Olympia - 19th December

MERRY CHRISTMAS to you all.

It is that time of year again when we need to be thinking about going to Olympia for the fabulous Christmas Finale, Shetland Grand National, Showjumping, stunt riders, shopping for horsey bits, etc.

Please can you let me know if you would like to book tickets and how many, for Monday afternoon on the 19th December 2016, at £34.30 each.  We do need to be quick as they are selling out.  If you can email me at helenkaya@harpercraven.com, by Wednesday evening then I can book the tickets.

Payment needs to be made either by BACS transfer direct to SDHEPC, and a copy of the payment needs to be sent to me, either by email or to Helen Burgess, 83 Eastbourne Road, Lower Willingdon, Eastbourne, East Sussex, BN20 9NR.  Or send me a cheque made payable to SDHEPC.  If you would like me to post your tickets to you I will need a stamp addressed envelope.  Alternatively, I can give them to you at one of our rallies.

Also could you confirm if you would like to go by coach instead of British Rail, as I will also look into booking a coaching or a minibus depending on how many would prefer to use this form of transport over British Rail.  At the moment I have 13 of us prefering a coach.  Cost of this will be given once I know who would be interested in this form of transport

Look forward to hearing from you.

Helen

showjumping success at Keysoe - huge well done to our grassroots team

On the 11th September, our grass roots show jumping team of; Charlie Pincus, Charlotte Sudedar, Poppy Westwell and Frankie Walker travelled to  Keysoe to take part in the finals having qualified at Felbridge during July.

37 teams took part and our team were one of only 45 teams to finish on a 0 score after the first round.  In the second round Charlie and the ever consistent Ollie jumped another fabulous clear, Charlotte had an unlucky pole, Poppy had a unfortunate fall and Frankie jumped clear but incurred 1 time penalty so the team finished on a total of 5 faults.  These fantastic performances brought our team home in 4th place out of the 37, so a really huge well done to all of you.

A big thankyou to the parents who gave up their time to travel to Keysoe and also to Emily Pincus for arranging the rather "Fawlty Towers" accommodation – you are all a great credit to our branch.

This wonderful performance by the grassroots team shows that by putting in lots of hard work, attending jumping rallies and practices really does pay off, so take a look at the programme page of our website and pop your names down for the rallies and come along to receive expert tuition and advice – you could then be part of these teams!

Candy Robbins

showjumping for our branch - from Candy & Emily

SHOWJUMPING 2016/17

Team Selection:

We welcome and encourage all our members to step up and "have-a-go" in team events and also to compete as individuals.

However, we remind parents and members that we have a duty of care to our members and do not encourage children to be put forward for classes that are too much for them.

Groupings for both training and team selection are done on the basis of training attendance, experience of pony and rider, age and ability.  This is the competitive element of the branch and we work out teams in collaboration with our trainers with a view to competing with significant success. For example, if a member is competing successfully at 2'6 (reasonably consistent clears) then we will feel happy to include them in a 2'6 team.  We will possibly include them in a 2'9 team if it is felt that the combination is ready to move up a level. However, please remember that a 3 inch height increase also involves a corresponding increase in the width of spreads and often the frequency and nature of fillers and other obstacles.

The health and safety of all our members and their horses is of paramount importance and we will not take what we consider to be unnecessary risks and will not condone over facing either pony or rider.

As a branch, we do not limit the number of teams we enter and will try and accommodate all members who show an interest. However, personal invites are not an option and we will not chase people to join a team.  As we can only enter full teams, there are frequently reserves waiting so please do not try to organise teams yourselves!

Team selection is done through the show jumping organisers: Emily Pincus for L1 and L2 and Candy Robbins for L3 and L4. Emily and Candy liaise with the appropriate instructors, Angela and Sarah,  for their levels – it is up to the instructors who are in the team.

Jumping practices and rallies are run throughout the year so the instructors can see combinations and their progress.  Team selections are NOT made at ordinary working rallies.  It is important for members to attend as many of these rallies as possible to gain experience and also to be able to jump with confidence when attending an event and not be out of their comfort zone.

For some competitions, such as Area and Interbranch, combinations have to be "rallied up" – attend a minimum of 3 working rallies.

Look out for e-mails with details regarding show jumping practices or  the programme on our website.

Candy Robbins    0781 6580322                                                 Emily Pincus 07808 783974

Team Events:

Please remember that when you are competing in a SDHE team, you are representing the branch and so we ask and expect the following:

Rudeness, pushiness or aggression towards anyone will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Clean and  plaited horses wearing clean, plain tack and equally clean and correctly turned out members (this includes hairnets, ties, gloves, beige jodphurs at all times – NO BLING!)

Appropriate behaviour and manners from all members and all those that they bring with them

The team manager only is to liaise with the event organisers. Multiple parents interfering causes stress and confusion. As a branch that organises large events itself, we are all aware that everything goes a lot smoother when dealing with 1 branch representative.  If an issue arises or you have a query, please contact either Candy or Emily who will sort everything out.

Here's to a successful rest of 2016 and 2017 season of show jumping.

There is another Unmounted Stable Management rally for members working towards E, D & D+ standards at Vixengrove Farm on Saturday 08.10.2016 - 2 groups from 11 - 11.45 & 11.45 - 12.30pm. £5 to include a drink & biscuit. Tea & coffee for waiting parents. Please send me rally forms and method of payment details/cheque ASAP (my address on rally form which can be downloaded from PC website) All enquiries to melaniecammies@btinternet.com / 07831 184821 So far I have 1 member who has sent their completed form & payment. These SM rallies are important for members working towards E, D & D+ standards as there will be rallies and test days coming up and the information given at these and mounted working rallies will be beneficial for them. Flat work rally on Saturday - replies to Jo Reffin

Flatwork rally with Polly Thom Birches farm, Lewes road, Isfield TN 22 5TY 9am: Xanthe Fairhead - Louis Cesca Fairhead - Roscoe Alice Reffin - Henry Eleanor Reffin - Percy 10 am: Lottie Mayo - Ellie Eleanor Dean - Ollie Annabelle Orgill - Jasper Keira Beasley - Pixie Riding and parking are on grass. Do not come to our house. The field is beyond our house on the same side of the road if travelling from the Uckfield end of Lewes road to the Lewes end. Do not rely on sat nav as all of us share the same postcode. The turning is by a pair of cottages almost opposite Boathouse farm. It is a narrow turning through a wooden gate marked ' Whiteoaks' and then an IMMEDIATE left turn through another gateway. It is a tight turn. Please get in touch in advance if you need further directions. The mobile signal is very poor. I can pick up a text more easily. 07789992810. Thank you and see you Saturday. Best wishes Jo Jo Reffin

Unmounted Stable Management Rally for members working towards E, D & D+ standard next Saturday 17.09.16 at Vixengrove Farm, Cinder Hill, Chailey, BN8 4HR. 11 - 11.45 & 11.45 - 12.30pm. £5 to include a drink and biscuit. Tea & coffee for waiting parents. All enquiries to melaniecammies@btinternet.com/07831184821 Please send in rally forms and payment ASAP - if there are insufficient numbers I will have to cancel - I have only received 3 names thus far and only 1 has paid. Polly Thom is organising a test day in the October half term and it is beneficial for those hoping to take a test to attend these SM rallies beforehand and, they are fun to attend. We have kindly been offered Vixengrove Farm by Mr and Mrs Day as a venue but as it is a working livery yard it is essential that any member attending must inform me in advance if there is any sickness in their own yard thus avoiding the spread of infections. Fence judges needed for Wivelsden Hunter Trial - 11th September

Hi Everyone.

What a fantastic summer it has been with 3 lovely pony club camps and lots of rallies nearly all in the sun !!!

I met lots of new faces and new members who offered their help at our last two events of 2016.  I hope everyone has remembered and doesn't just leave it to the small number who help All day at All events as that is not fair when All members benefit from the rally prices still being subsided by the branch for another year. I hope we make enough profit over the next 2 events so 2017 can stay the same.

So I Need Your Help.

Please email/ring me if you can cross country fence judge next Sunday 11th Sept either all day or am or pm.

I will give you full instructions on the day so new parents and your children we would love to see you even if only for a while.

To cover the whole day i will need around 30 fence judges so please come forward to help and email me on

clairemfry@hotmail.co.uk

Thanking you all in advance

Claire
