Really important that pony has brakes and is safe. Looking to loan or buy, experienced family home where pony will be much loved and looked after. Please email Sarah Day on sarah.day@daygroup.co.uk

Wanted: Loan Pony for Senior Camp

My 13 year old daughter is desperately wanting to go to Senior Camp this year for the first time, but we have the minor problem of not having a pony suitable for the week!

Does anyone have a pony around 14'2 that is sane and sensible that will look after her and be thoroughly looked after in return? She's a quiet rider, not a speed junkie, happily jumping 2'3/6 on the pony she shares so not needing to jump massive jumps.

Please contact me on sgreaves690@hotmail.co.uk if you think you may be able to help us out.

Thank you.

WARNING: Southdown East Pony Club - Membership Renewal Urgent

Hello

You are receiving this message because the e-mail address is associated with one or more members of the Pony Club whose membership needs to be urgently renewed if you wish to continue with us in 2016.  Memberships that are not renewed will LAPSE on 29th February after which point you will not have Pony Club insurance cover and you will no be able to participate in any Pony Club activities.

Please find the form you will need to complete attached.  If you have recently dealt with this matter and a communication is in the post then please ignore this reminder.

If you do not intend renewing an e-mail to that effect will be greatly appreciated and will prevent follow up reminders.

You may print the form [please note I only need page 3], complete it, and either post it or scan and e-mail.  It is also possible to fill the form in using Acrobat Reader and e-mail the pdf file to me saving paper, ink and postage.

If you can please complete the Gift Aid Declaration.  If every member did that, the branch would be about £2,000 better off.  A signature is required for this so if completing the form using Acrobat you will need to apply the image of your signature, a printed name is apparently not acceptable (not my rules!).

You may wish to make a bank transfer rather than send me a cheque in which case please note that our account is:

20-49-76   30810541

and please give your name as reference.

A form for booking places at our annual camps is being sent separately and you should receive it in the next few days.

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Looking for a horse

I am looking for a 15-15.2hh gelding or non-marish mare. Safe on the ground as children going to be handling and in yard. Happy for a bit of spirit but nothing that might buck/rear etc. Not looking for potential top-class/money winner. Beth is a small 14yo, confident and gutsy, but still has lots to learn. She is coming off a first pony, Polly, who is very straightforward and easy, and now needs to take the next step. We have a fab instructor who will continue to come once a week. Beth hasn't started competing properly yet. She has done a few 2' and 2'.3" classes and loves it, and would now like to do more. She would like to do X-country but no hunting. She is going to PC camp in the summer. Basically looking for an uncomplicated mother/daughter share who will enjoy being loved and be a good partner for Beth to begin to increase her PC attendance and introduce her to competing. Sensible budget. Please contact Amanda at mandajennings@yahoo.co.uk.

Show jumping update for 2016 - a bit of bedtime reading!

Our show jumping teams have had a busy start to the year and have put in some very creditable performances.

Bitterly cold, snow, ice – yes it had to be our own 2 day jumping show at Ardingly on 16th & 17th January!  Saturday saw the mini mini and mini team and scurry classes, with a very popular mini/major relay for a bit of fun giving the mini mini people a chance to compete with the mini's.

Ethan Collins riding Harry produced a fine round to finish 3rd in the mini mini scurry and give SDHE their first placing of the weekend.

Our mini mini team finished 2nd out of 11 teams – Arabella Goodwin riding Jack, Ethan Collins riding Harry, Jack Pincus riding Panda and Sadie Jackson riding Jessie.

There were some very speedy ponies in the mini scurry, but only one was fast enough to beat the delightful Parsley beautifully ridden by Anna Currie into 2nd place. Hot on her heels, finishing in 6th place was Rumer Crawford and Smithlan April Rose.

With these two partnerships warmed up, it was time for the mini team class and they were joined by Ben Burgess riding Eaglehurst Batman and Charlotte Subedar riding Skittles to produce a fabulous team effort and win the class!!

Not content with that, our team of Amalie Convoy riding Prince, Rhianna Hawkins riding Blossom, Millie Easton riding Jimmy and Anna Currie riding Pixie  finished in 5th place and finishing in 6th position were the team of Ellie Taylor riding Paddy, Charlotte Subedar riding Blarney, Ella Currie riding Prince and Emily Allardyce-Bassett riding Ellie.

That concluded day one, the course was rebuilt and we all headed home for a few hours to recharge our batteries.

Sunday! Snow, frozen outdoor arena and competitors struggling to reach Ardingly, but that wasn't enough to stop us from running.

The small novice team class had 14 teams entered and was very competitive.

Our "Charlies Angels" team led by Charlie Pincus riding Ollie finished in 3rd position – the "angels", although I am sure their parents may dispute this title were, Jess Fry riding Big Dan, Frankie Walker riding Cookie and Ellie Mileham riding Tilly.

Our "Butterflies" team finished 5th and consisted of Abigail Johnson riding Monty, Ellen Collyer riding Cyfarddol Daisy May, Francesca Birt riding Woodhaven Joey and Francesca Fairhead riding Branco Espoir.    This was a brilliant result as there were some who were competing at this height for the first time.

The Novice team class had 13 teams and competition was hot with Mid Surrey fielding 3 teams, Crawley & Horsham 2 teams and Old Surrey & Burstow 2 teams.

Well,  SDHE like hot competition and we won the class!!  Our team of "Three Greys and a Bay" were Emma Robbins riding Charlie Chalk, Maddie Aloof riding Paddy Panache, Chloe Macdonald riding Arthur and Tara Keoshgerian riding Pegasus IV.  Jolly well done girls for winning this team class 2 years running.

The Dengie had 47 starters and one of the biggest fields of the winter qualifier. An up to height course produced only 5 clear rounds, with Tara Keoshgerian riding Pegasus finishing in 6th place and qualifying for the next round of the competition at Merriest Wood.

We did not have an Intermediate team, but Francesca Turner riding Indian Summer came 6th as an individual.

The Puissance had 11 starters and went to 5 rounds with Katie Vaughan riding her Mothers' horse, The Golden Years sharing 1st place with Freddie Driscoll of SDHW, both clearing the wall at 1.35mt

Despite the inclement weather, the weekend was a huge success for the branch both from a competitive point of view and also as a fund raiser for the branch.  Many thanks to all those who came and helped over the weekend and made it all possible – you are all truly appreciated.

So, 2 weeks off and then we headed to  Golden Cross for the interbranch competition being hosted by East Sussex.  Yes, it was still cold but not nearly as bad as Ardingly!  It was also much quieter.

The mini mini class had 2 teams but also incorporated the individuals.

Our team came 2nd and consisted of Ella Currie riding Prince, Rhianna Hawkins riding Blossom, Emily Allardyce Bassett riding Ellie and Ethan Collins riding Harry.  Emily was placed 3rd as an individual and Ella 4th – well done girls.

The mini's were rather short on numbers and 2 teams had to be put together to form one!  However our little darlings came out on top to take 1st place.  Well done Anna Currie riding Parsley, Rumer Crawford riding Smithlan April Rose and Jessica May Taylor riding Inca.  Anna also came 3rd as an individual and Rumer 8th.

There was not a small novice class which was a shame as that height is very popular, but we had 3 entered for the novice class and they joined together so we could produce a team and came 4th. These were Emma Robbins riding Charlie Chalk, Charlotte Subedar riding Skittles and Francesca Birt riding Woodhaven Joey.  Charlotte came 5th as an individual in a class that saw few clear rounds.

Francesca Turner riding Indian Summer triumphed in the Dengie, winning the class and now on her way to the next round at Merriest Wood.

2 weeks off and out we ventured again, this time to a very chaotic show held at Felbridge by Crawley and Horsham.  Entries were huge, parking non existent but we all kept smiling – well done to our parents and Sarah Muggeridge for putting on their traffic control hats and keeping the traffic on the A264 moving!

Again, no small novice class and an age limit in the mini class ruled out a number of our members.

However, our mini mini team finished in 3rd place; Ethan Collins riding Harry, Arabella Goodwin riding Jack, Annabelle Orgill riding Peachfield Firefox and Sadie Jackson riding Jessie. It is wonderful to see our mini mini people doing so well.

Sadly we had nobody placed in the mini team or individual, but there were in excess of 80 competitors and everyone put in a good performance and should be very pleased with themselves.

Eventually the Novice class got underway, with 100 competitors and 20 teams!

One of our members, Chloe Macdonald took a nasty fall in the warm up and was unable to continue – however Chloe kept warm watching from the ambulance while Tara Keoshgerian quickly got ready and rode Chloe's horse to keep the team afloat.  The girls all jumped beautifully and the team came 2nd!  Huge congratulations to Emma Robbins riding Charlie Chalk, Maddie Aloof riding Paddy Panache, Jessica Copsey riding Atlanta Riva and Tara Keoshgerian riding Arthur.

Our other team, although not placed, did not disgrace themselves and were: Charlotte Subedar riding Skittles, Francesca Birt riding Woodhaven Joey, Harriet Sallis riding Rooney and Francesca Turner riding Kitty.

Emma Robbins and Charlie Chalk went on to win this class – a superb result out of 100 competitors!

By now the sun was going down and so was the temperature.  In the Intermediate we came 5th as a team; Emma Robbins riding Drummer, Francesca Turner riding Summer and Tara Keoshgerian riding Pegasus IV.

It was a long, tiring day but very successful for SDHE.

Many thanks to the parents who give up their time to drive our members to these competitions and for supporting our branch – these days are usually very long and sometimes we don't get the results we had hoped for, but I think as a branch we all pull together and support one another and are very lucky to have such lovely members.

Looking for a horse

We are currently looking for a 15 - 15.2hh Horse for loan or purchase for a mother/daughter share.

Our daughter has been in the Southdown East Pony Club since the age of  7 and we have loaned and owned three ponies since the beginning of her riding career at the age of 5.

As this will be our first horse we are looking for something that is primarily safe but at the same time fun and forward going.  We are particularly interested in the breeds Connemara or Irish Sports.

The horse will be kept on a farm with two other ponies where there is a wonderful opportunity for hacking on the Ashdown Forest and Sheffield Park.  We would also like to take part in more Pony Club events, particularly Hunter Trials and One Day Events.

As we have a younger daughter we need the horse to be safe around young children.

For more information please contact Jayne Duveen on 07565 303 559.

Mini mini and mini teams at Felbridge - from Emily Pincus

Dear All, The organisers have advised that due to the large number of entries for this event, Class 1 will now start at 9am in the Rubber Arena followed by the Clear Round. Class 2 will start at 9am in the Main Arena with all other classes to follow. With this in mind, Angela will meet those jumping in Class 1 outside the Rubber Arena at 8.30am for the course walk, followed by a quick dash to the Pavilion to meet those competing in Class 2 at 8.50am for their course walk! I have attached the link to the running order for tomorrow. Best of luck to you all, enjoy and remember to thank the organisers at the end! Emily 07808 783974 http://www.crawleyhorsham-ponyclub.org/images/my-documents/Inter%20Branch%20Team%20Show%20Jumping%202016%20for%20website.pdf

Felbridge update for novice and intermediate teams - from Candy

Felbridge tomorrow – Novice and Intermediate people.

Due to the large volume of entries the mini mini class is now running in  the rubber arena, meaning that the mini class is now the first class in the Bill Kear arena and starting at 9.00.

The knock on effect is that you will all be jumping earlier than planned, probably by about 1 and a half hours!

Therefore, the Novice competitors will need to meet Sarah by the clubhouse steps at around 11.00 in order to walk the course.  If the mini class takes longer, I am sorry if you have to wait a short while but best to be early and not miss the course walk.

The intermediate class will follow, but you are all there already so shouldn't be a problem unless we run out of daylight hours!

With the amount of competitors, I would imagine they will keep pushing you in the ring fairly rapidly, so make sure you are ready when called!

See you in the morning.

FOR LOAN - Smartie - 12.2hh mare

Please note that circulation of this advertisement by the Pony Club does not imply any endorsement or warranty of any kind.

For Loan

Smartie is a 12.2 hh, 23 yr old, strawberry roan, New Forest, mare.

She is a fantastic pony club pony looking for a young rider who is in need of a confidence boost.  We are looking for a pony club home for Smartie to bring a young rider up to 50 cm classes. Smartie  is an amazing first pony and has competed in all spheres of the pony club, including one day events, show jumping, prince phillip cup and handy pony.  Smartie has no vices and is bomb/spook proof. She is a snaffle mouth and can be ridden alone or in company; nothing fazes her.

Smartie is normally turned out in the day and stabled at night and is shod in front. She has Cushing's disease that is successfully managed with medication and does not impede her performance in any way.

Smartie has been in the same ownership for 18 years and only 5* homes will be considered. We want to find a home that loves her as much as we do.

No time wasters please.

For more information on this lovely pony please call Andrea of 07971 524 273.

Team showjumping from Candy & Emily

SHOWJUMPING 2016

Team Selection:

We welcome and encourage all our members to step up and "have-a-go" in team events.

However, we remind parents and members that we have a duty of care to our members and do not encourage children to be put forward for classes that are too much for them.

Groupings for both training and team selection are done on the basis of training attendance, experience of pony and rider, age and ability.  This is the competitive element of the branch and we work out teams in collaboration with our trainers with a view to competing with significant success. For example, if a member is competing successfully at 2'6 (reasonably consistent clears) then we will feel happy to include them in a 2'6 team.  We will possibly include them in a 2'9 team if it is felt that the combination is ready to move up a level. However, please remember that a 3 inch height increase also involves a corresponding increase in the width of spreads and often the frequency and nature of fillers and other obstacles.

The health and safety of all our members and their horses is of paramount importance and we will not take what we consider to be unnecessary risks and will not condone over facing either pony or rider.

As a branch, we do not limit the number of teams we enter and will try and accommodate all members who show an interest. However, personal invites are not an option and we will not chase people to join a team.  As we can only enter full teams, there are frequently reserves waiting so please do not try to organise teams yourselves!

Team selection is done through the show jumping organisers: Emily Pincus for L1 and L2 and Candy Robbins for L3 and L4. Emily and Candy liaise with the appropriate instructors, Angela and Sarah,  for their levels – it is up to the instructors who are in the team.

Jumping practices are run throughout the year so the instructors can see combinations and their progress.  Team selections are NOT made at ordinary working rallies.

For some competitions, such as Area and interbranch, combinations have to be "rallied up" – attend a minimum of 3 working rallies.

Look out for e-mails with details regarding show jumping practices or  the programme on our website.

Team Events:

Please remember that when you are competing in a SDHE team, you are representing the branch and so we ask and expect the following:

Rudeness, pushiness or aggression towards anyone will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Clean and  plaited horses wearing clean, plain tack and equally clean and correctly turned out members (this includes hairnets, ties, gloves, beige jodphurs at all times – NO BLING!)

Appropriate behaviour and manners from all members and all those that they bring with them

The team manager only is to liaise with the event organisers. Multiple parents interfering causes stress and confusion. As a branch that organises large events itself, we are all aware that everything goes a lot smoother when dealing with 1 branch representative.  If an issue arises or you have a query, please contact either Candy or Emily who will sort everything out.

Here's to a successful 2016 season of show jumping.
