Wanted: Pony on loan

Dear Mike

Please could you circulate for me.

Wanted approx. 12 - 13hh pony on loan for 8yr old boy.

We currently have two lovely ponies on loan who have taken both my boys from lead rein to independent riding. However, my eldest son is now wanting to progress and improve his jumping and sadly his current pony's talent isn't jumping.

Both boys are active Pony Club members and have done several mini camps and many rallies.

A very knowledgeable home awaits for a pony at our house on the edge of the Wivelsfield/Burgess Hill boundary. Head groom (ie Mum!) has BHSAI, was a SDHEPC member in her youth and comes highly recommended!

Please email or call.
Many thanks, Nicky Collins (nee Hicks)

Hickstead and Area jumping

Hello. Jo has already sent round a message about Area Dressage so please see that and let her know if you would like to be considered.

We need to enter the number of required teams very soon so it is essential we know of your interest in the following ASAP. (Due to limitations on the numbers of teams allowed to enter I am afraid that showing an interest does not guarantee a place in a team.)

Area Showjumping – is on Sunday July 13th in Surrey. If you would like to be considered for:

Mini teams – please contact Hazel Perry. These teams do not qualify for the Championships but can win a nice cup.

Novice teams (Level 3 - 90cm) – please contact Candy Robbins

Intermediate (Level 4 - 1m) and Open (Level 5) – please contact Liza Curtis

Area Eventing - is on Sunday July 27th at Brightling. If you would like to be considered for:

Novice teams (Level 3) – please contact Hazel Perry

Intermediate (Level 4) and Open (Level 5) – please contact Liza Curtis

And another call for those interested in Hickstead Show Jumping on Saturday 9th August to come forward and contact Candy, Liza or Hazel. See Candys earlier email for the competition rules.

Candy has already started practices for novice and I will do the same for intermediates when I know who is interested.

It is too late to tell us in June that you want to be involved!!

Thank you

Area Dressage - Sunday July 6th - from Jo reffin

Please email me names of riders interested in competing for our branch at the area dressage competition as either Individual or team entries.

The competition is held on grass and the area qualifying classes are at the novice level and above. We do not have the schedule yet.

Riders need to have done 3 * rallies, on the pony they wish to compete on, within the last year to be eligible to compete at areas. All criteria for the classes can be found on the main pony club website.

At this point I need expressions of interest. Teams will be selected by our instructors.

There is a dressage rally in half term on Thursday 29 th May at Crockstead. If you are interested please try to attend.

We are planning 2 training dates on grass in June and these dates will be out soon.

C+/B rallies

Thank you to those who have given me their availability for c+/b rallies. Can I ask those who have not already done so to get in touch. A 'no' is as helpful as a 'yes' so we can arrange instructors.

So far the names I have for Sat 3rd May are...

Kezzie Fish, Alex Medlicott, and Grace Riminton.

Ideally we need 4 members to attend each session to break even. We will invite other pony clubs to join us in order to prevent cancelling, but I need to know definitely if you are/are not intending on attending.

I look forward to hearing from all potential C+/B candidates.

Thanks

Painting the XC jumps!

Hi everyone

The first hunter trials of the season are not far away and we are busy getting the course ready. All the jumps need repainting. If you could spare some time to help I would be really grateful.

I will be at the course on Thursday 8th May and Friday 9th May from 10 to 2.

I will have painting brushes and paint. We will meet in the starters field at 10.

Please bring a sandwich for lunch and come and join me on one of these days. If its raining we will obviously have to rearrange it.

I look forward to hearing from as many as you as possible.

Heart of Sussex ride 2014

Dear Mike

Please would you forward the following to the members of SDHEPC:

HEART OF SUSSEX SPONSORED HORSE RIDE

The Heart of Sussex ride is held annually to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation. It is a 10 mile ride over beautiful countryside; it crosses private farmland and woodland as well as using public bridle paths. There are a number of optional jumps. This year's ride will be held on Sunday 7th September, again at St Helena's Farm, Plumpton Green. We hope to run a clear round jumping ring and will, again, be providing a leading rein course for younger riders on which dogs on leads are welcome. Please follow us on Facebook (Heart-Of-Sussex-Sponsored-Horse-Ride) where further details will be posted when available.

Pony Club Road Rider Achievement Badge (D+/C Test) + Mini Road Rider

Helen Burgess-Dinleyici has very kindly agreed to co-ordinate the training that is required for the award of the Road Rider Achievement Badge.  The relationship between the various Road Rider and Efficiency tests is explained here: http://www.pcuk.org/uploads/training/THE_PONY_CLUB_TRAINING_SYSTEM_Dec_2012.pdf)

If your child needs to complete this badge please contact Helen so she can compile a list and arrange sessions.  It is possible the test will be on 28th May at South Brockwells Farm.

We have space for 8 children each day. The sessions will last from 10 am until 2.30/3 pm. All participants will also have to watch a DVD and read the accompanying book before they attend. (These will be supplied by Pony Club). Cost £25 including the badge.

The sessions will start with a thorough tack check. Any loose stitching will need mending before riding starts so please can you check your tack, particularly stirrup leathers before the day. The children will do a bit of theory and they will need a pen and paper. They will then walk and ride the course which will be laid out. After lunch a theory and practical test will be completed.

Ponies do not need to be plaited but must be smartly turned out. All children should be in usual pony club attire (sweatshirts, cream jodhpurs, hair nets etc). If you have them please bring pale gloves and any fluorescent items for the child and pony. Please do not buy anything you will not use again just let me know and I am sure we can borrow what is needed. Children will need a packed lunch, drinks, wet weather gear (hopefully not) or suncream. Ponies will also need to have all they require for the day. They will be tied to a trailer or lorry for reasonable periods of the session.

Helen then plans to hold a two hours session from 3pm to 5pm (tbc) for any members wishing to undergo training and assessment for the Mini Road Rider award.

Please can you let Helen know ASAP if you are interested in either award and if we have sufficient numbers the day will go ahead.  helenkaya@harpercraven.com

Pony Club Road Rider Achievement Badge (D+/C Test) + Mini Road Rider

Helen Burgess-Dinleyici has very kindly agreed to co-ordinate the training that is required for the award of the Road Rider Achievement Badge.  This is a pre-requisite for the award of the C test (all is explained here: http://www.pcuk.org/uploads/training/THE_PONY_CLUB_TRAINING_SYSTEM_Dec_2012.pdf)

Helen is thinking of the test taking place on 28th May, most likely at South Brockwells Farm, from 10am to 2pm.  Angela Stafford will teach/examine.  Please note there is a theory test for which a training DVD and book is required (Branch hope to provide these to candidates on loan).  Candidates will have to spend some time studying before the day or will not pass!  The minimum age for candidates is 9 years.

Helen then plans to hold a two hours session from 2pm to 4pm for any members wishing to undergo training and assessment for the Mini Road Rider award.

Please can you let Helen know ASAP if you are interested in either award and if we have sufficient numbers the day will go ahead.  helenkaya@harpercraven.com

Horse share/loan wanted

Please note that circulation of this advertisement by the Pony Club does not imply any endorsement or warranty of any kind.

The following request has been received from Jo Tragenza.  If you wish to contact Jo please e-mail her: J.Tregenza@sussex.ac.uk

We have two 12 year old girls who have had a pony share for the last year and have suddenly discovered that she is being sold. They are both devastated but we are determined to find replacements. Lily is 12 and 5'1". She is a very competent rider and has been having riding lessons for 7 years and a pony loan for two. Lucy is 5'3" and an experienced rider.  She has had a loan for one year. We are really looking for two ponies / horses that they could loan so that they can have the opportunity to ride together.

I would be grateful if you could perhaps spread the word? The girls go to Chailey school so Wivelsden farm or similar is an ideal location for them.  They were both just about to join the Pony Club so it has come as a bit if a shock to them.

Thank you for your time.

Jo Tregenza

URGENT - BRANCH SHOW

As you all know we have ran a SDHEPC Branch show for many years. This event is a traditional, fun show and it raises approximately £1000 profit, which goes towards keeping our rally costs down. It is well supported by neighbouring branches, local competitors and many of our branch members (especially the younger ones).  We have got this years event scheduled into our diary of events for the ????? It is a big organisational task to put together and run this show, as we have approximately six rings.

HOWEVER, we will be unable to run this event unless we have parents/grandparents to step forward to take over the running of it. The Events Committee will of course be willing to support and help, but we do feel that we need more people to come forward to project manage it and organise it. We are all very involved with the organising and running of the Hunter Trials and One Day Events,which takes up a huge amount of our time. We just don't feel that we can commit to any more as most of us are working full time and have other commitments.

An outline of roles:

* Urgently looking for a Show secretary to take entries prior and on the day (two people needed on the day)
* Urgently looking for a Show organiser to be responsible for the running of the event
* SJ ring - all day: commentator/judge/tack check/steward/arena party
* Working hunter ring - all day: judge/2 x stewards
* Showing ring: judge/2 stewards
* Clear round - 2 people all day
* Dinky jumping ring - judge/steward/tack check/arena party
* Dinky corner fun showing - judge/steward
* Gymkhana - judges/assistants
* Handy Pony - 2 people all day
* runners for odd jobs
* Setting up and clearing away are also huge jobs that need an army of willing people too.
* Someone to seek sponsors for the different rings : £100 to sponsor each ring

Toilets/first aid/ PA/ course builder/catering/photography/rosettes is all organised.

As you can see the event needs an awful lot of people to run. We as a branch certainly do not want to see this event not happen however we do need many more people to commit to being more actively involved with the Branch and events. We have until Saturday 11th April to make a decision on the Branch Show, so if you would like to see it happen then please do email us your firm commitment by then. If we do not have any response then it will be cancelled. The children really do enjoy this show, and we would very much like it to run. PLEASE DO HELP US TO MAKE IT HAPPEN for our members to enjoy.

Many thanks,

Candy Robbins & Heidi Greenwood
(Branch Secretary)
