Senior and Day Camp 2023 invite

SENIOR CAMP and DAY CAMP

To:         All Members who want to go to Senior or Day Camp 2023

From:    Candy Robbins – Branch and Camp Secretary

Camp arrangements for 2023 are underway!  Both will take place at Plumpton Racecourse. To secure a place I will need to receive your non-refundable deposit as shown below.

Deciding which camp to apply for can be a difficult matter as there are several factors: age, ability of the rider and pony, willingness to stay away from home and fully care for your pony. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Coming to the most appropriate camp is a big step to achieving a happy outcome!

We will be holding a briefing session for first time Senior Campers and their families via Zoom on Monday 17th April - please let me know if you would like to attend so you can be sent the link. Hopefully attending the briefing will prepare members coming to Senior Camp of what to expect and feel more prepared when camp begins.  It will also be an opportunity for us to explain some of the rules, including the use of mobile phones and so forth.  There will be ample opportunity for questions and answers.  Our goal is to ensure every camper has a thoroughly enjoyable, productive and memorable experience!

To assist with placing campers in the correct riding group, and preferably on the pony they intend to bring to camp, campers will need to have attended a minimum of 3 mounted working rallies between 1st March 2023 and start of camp.

Senior Camp will run from Sunday 30th July to Friday 4th August. This Camp will be fully residential and aimed at ages 11 and over. Riders and ponies will stay the whole week and there will be no going home at night. Visitors are not permitted except for those who have volunteered to help in the kitchen.

Day Camp  (formally junior and mini camp, now merged as one)  will run from Monday 31st July to Friday 4th August and is intended for members aged 5 – 11, but is not closed to older members.  **Riders and ponies go home every night**  The day is usually 9.30-3.30 – in the case of very young riders home time could be earlier if you think your child will struggle.  Please note that for reasons of welfare and safety members attending Day Camp must be riding independently and competently off the lead rein at all paces- mini riders aged 5 years and under will need a parent (or their adult representative) to stay with them during the day to assist with grooming, tacking up, leading and using the toilet!

** We are able to offer a limited number of overnight stabling for those attending day camp at at a cost of £12.00 per night – please could you let me know if this is something you would like to book**

Fees are kept as low as possible as we don't plan to make a profit out of camps, but they may still require some cross-subsidy from Branch funds- prices this year have remained the same as last year. Please bear that in mind when we appeal for help in running our fund raising events!

I am happy to receive bookings by e-mail backed by payment direct into the Branch Account (20-49-76 30810541) Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis and bookings will not be treated as confirmed until supported by the non refundable deposit as above.  You will receive an e-mail notification after both your application and payment have been received.

Senior Camp will be capped at 30 members and target size of Day Camp will be 20 maximum.

After your application has been received, you will be sent paperwork asking for pony and rider details, copies of flu vaccinations etc. plus further forms for residential campers.

It is a requirement of Plumpton Racecourse that all horses are up to date with their flu vaccinations and must have received a booster within 6 months of attending camp – I will send out a full breakdown of this in due course.

All rounder pony/horse wanted

Nellie Ashton is one of our long standing members and looking for a new best friend after outgrowing her beloved pony Blue:
?Nellie (13 years in June) is looking for a calm and kind all-rounder pony, 14-15HH to share/loan in the Lewes area, 1-2 days/wk. She is looking for a step up from her smaller, but adored pony who she has learned so much with over the last six years. Currently jumping 60-70cm, loves hacking out, dressage and keeping pony and yard ship-shape. Nellie hopes to find a fitting pony for SDHEPC Summer Camp this August in Plumpton. On-going flexibility for extra rides during school holidays and opportunity to participate in some NSEA competitions and pony club rallies are high on the wish-list. Please get in touch with rozhouchin@mac.com / 07900887423, with thanks.

The website is still down so if it is not up by Sunday please make payment of £15 by BACs to Southdown East and email Lorna Thwaites on lornajthwaites@gmail.com to book your space.

Lorry to borrow please

Would anyone have, or know of a 5-7.5 lorry we could use for 3 days (2nd - 4th May) for Emma and Bonnie who have qualified for the Badminton Grassroots.

Would need a living area so we are able to sleep in the lorry on site.  Doesn't need to be posh and have cooking and showering facilities, just somewhere we could sleep and have room to take shaving, hay, mucking out equipment along with the usual tack and equipment for 3 days.

All offers will be greatly appreciated.

Candy Robbins
