If you are starting to think about your development in 2021, you might want to consider training for and taking one of the Pony Club Efficiency Tests. These tests enable members to learn progressively about horse and pony care and riding. The tests are taken at recommended ages and in a specified order:E Test (voluntary test for new members)D Test (min. age 8 years)D+ Test ( min. age 10 years)The Pony Club Road Ride Achievement badge (this is a pre-requisite before being awarded the C test)C Test (min. age 11 years)C+ Test (Riding and/or Horse and Pony Care) (min. age 13 years)B Test (Riding and/or Horse and Pony Care)Lungeing Test (must have passed B Test)B+ Test (optional)AH TestA TestThe syllabus for each test can be found on the Pony Club UK website:Whilst we all continue to stay as safe as we can in Lockdown, there will be some remote rallies operating at the D and C Test Levels. Details will be sent out via email and Facebook. Ridden rallies will be arranged as soon as guidance allows and test dates set when sufficient members are considered ready to take their tests.
Zoom rallies with Angela Whitehead for D and D+. 23rd and 30th January at 4 pm.
These will cost £7.50 per person and a minimum of 4 needed to run.
I will also aim to organise some achievement badges in February to keep us all amused during these weird times! So keep eyes open on both Facebook and your emails!! Stay safe xx Kind regards Polly Thom
You don't need me to tell you this year is rather different but in addition to coping as best we can with the pandemic, Pony Club have fundamentally changed the process of membership management from being managed by individual branches to centralised administration built around a new computer system called PELHAM.
Most of our existing members have a renewal date of 31st January and you should already have received an e-mail from Pony Club HQ inviting you to renew. Memberships have now moved to a rolling 12 months so some memberships will fall due for renewal at other times of the year. An advantage of the new PELHAM system is that memberships can be renewed online via the membership portal and payment made by card online.
If you expect an invitation to renew but have not received it please feel free to contact me at mike.nichols@btinternet.com and I will do my best to sort things out.
Obviously Pony Club activities have been curtailed and disrupted during the lockdowns and we were unable to run any camps. Some have expressed the view that Pony Club should roll over the membership free of charge for a year. Unfortunately a significant part of the membership fee is spent on providing the comprehensive third part insurance cover and this has been operative as normal. Put simply, much as Pony Club might like to offer a free or reduced fee year it does not have the financial resources to do so.
If you do not intend renewing at this time I would appreciate a message to that effect as it will help the Branch Committee in making plans for 2021.
Wishing everyone a Happy, Safe and Prosperous New Year.
Mike Nichols
Treasurer and Membership Secretary.
The following is from Pony Club HQ and is included here for information:
All Pony Club memberships and renewals should now be made directly with The Pony Club Office at Stoneleigh.
INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIPS (those with less than 3 riding members in the same household).
FAMILY MEMBERSHIPS
If you have a family membership, or want to add members to create a family membership, you will need to download the membership form either from your branch website or https://pcuk.org/find-a-club/ complete the form and email to membership@pcuk.org OR by post to the address on the form.
Membership fees for 2021 remain as 2020:
Non-riding member £36; riding member £80 and family memberships £200 (up to 5 members in the same household).
Hi all,
Dear all,
Hi I hope you all had a lovely Xmas and New Year and are staying safe and well. In view of the fact that we are now in Tier 4, the Pony Club guidance is that we can only have one member at a rally. Obviously this is not viable so we are cancelling all rallies in January. Hopefully things will improve soon. Lorna Thwaites has organised a C test zoom stable management rally on 14th January. Anne

I would like to congratulate Emma Robbins who has now passed the Full B Test, after successfully completing the Care part last week and the Riding at the end of August. I am sure you will agree this is a great achievement.

Dear All I hope you are all keeping safe and well. In accordance with the email from Head Office sent to you all on 2nd November, all pony club face to face activities in England must be put on hold for the next 4 weeks from Thursday 5th November until Wednesday 2nd December. There is no guidance that we are aware of to stop riding but please avoid activities with an increased risk. Unnecessary travel is to be avoided, including lessons or training and transporting your horse for anything other than emergency care. We must comply with this new guidance to help limit the spread of the virus. If you have paid for any rallies during November, you will get a refund. Thank you. Anne

?Hello everyone, Hope this finds you all well, I just wanted to outline our plan with forthcoming rallies and tests. We are starting to resume all rallies and have had a few offers to cover our C test rallies, which I'm very grateful for! Shevaun Emeny is going to take over from Melanie Cammies for the E, D and D+. Rallies for e, d, d+,c and c+ are running at Plumpton College throughout the winter and I'm planning on possibly running a C test on the 12th December date. I hope to see you all at some of these rallies. A Test day for e,d and d+ will be possibly be held on the March date 2021. Can I remind you all that those wishing to be put forward to tests need to attend a minimum of 3 rallies, this is to make sure the syllabus is covered and members are confident and test ready. We are running a C + next month for those who have been training hard since before the dreaded Covid. A riding and road safety has been held and I'm just organising a date for Easter holidays 2021, so our next test candidates can do this test between the d+ and C test. Also we have had members doing their B test this year so well done and good luck to all!! Please make sure the organiser at your rally knows if you would like to be put forward for tests as then we can keep an up to date list and make sure nobody is overlooked! Alternatively contact myself and I can hopefully clear up any questions. Kind regards Polly Thom

I am sorry to let you know that Melanie Cammies will no longer be running our E, D and D+ rallies due to a change in personal circumstances. Melanie has been a part of this branch for many years and she will be greatly missed. She was so good at looking after all our younger members. However, ?I am pleased to announce that we are going to run some working rallies at Vixengrove, the first being on 16th August, 1pm to 3pm. These will be in rides of 4, any age, any standard but I'm afraid no lead rein or those that need assistance as we have to adhere to the strict social distancing measures and follow the rules given by Head Office. Polly will be instructing. The cost will be £10. Please book in the usual way on the website. We look forward to seeing you all. Anne
C + training
I'm so pleased to be able to offer some C+ training this summer.
Ridden rallies start on 9th August 1pm at Swanborough Farm, Lewes, BN7 3PF with Polly instructing. We are running 2 rides, each with 4 members. I currently have 4 spaces left. Please let me know if you would like to join. The rally is available to book online. Before booking please read the rally guidelines that Anne sent round which enable us to hold the rallies safely.
We are also starting stable management sessions via Zoom with Angela. These will be on:
Wednesday 5th Aug @ 9am
Tuesday 11th Aug @ 5pm
Tuesday 25th Aug @ 5pm
These will be available to book online soon.
It'll be so good to get going again, any questions please get in touch,

I am delighted to say there will be a jumping rally at Felbridge Showground on Monday 17th August running between 11.00 – 3.00.
Maximum number allowed in a group will be 4 and the cost is £20.00 per rider and booking is via our web site only.
At this stage of adhering to the strict social distancing measures we have to follow and under the rules given by Head Office, we are unable to cater for lead rein riders or those that may need assistance.
Please read the Guidelines for Rallies that we need to strictly adhere to, sent earlier today.
Look forward to seeing you all again for some fun jumping.

Dear All
Following on from my e-mail of 14th July regarding resuming rallies from 1st August, I am pleased so say our organisers have been working hard behind the scenes to get some rallies up and running safely.
This has taken some time as not all venues are open yet and PPE has needed to be sourced to keep organisers and instructors safe.
Dates will be added to our web site shortly and opened for booking.
In the meantime I ask that you all carefully read "Guidelines for Rallies" as these are rules from Head Office that we will be strictly adhering to.
Will be good to see you all soon.
Anne Cook
District Commissioner
Guidelines for Rallies
· In rallies maximum of 6 people in the one gathering e.g. : 1 coach, 1 rally organiser/first aider, 4 members
This is very different to what is natural behaviour but social distancing is an essential part of keeping everyone safe. Failure to follow any of the above may sadly result in you being asked to leave without refund.
Our organisers give up their time freely for the benefit of your family, please respect this and follow instructions without resistance.
Thank you for your cooperation during these unusual times
Dear All,
I am sure many of you already know, but it is with great sadness that I have to report that Cherry Michell died last Friday.
Cherry was a former Chairman of The Pony Club and was loved by so many. She was warm, kind and hugely supportive of the Pony Club. She will be very much missed.
I am waiting to hear regarding arrangements, perhaps the Romney Marsh would let us know what the family intend as Cherry was very much involved with the Branch.
Best wishes
Keep Safe & Well.

Dear All,
Please find attached information about the PC Dressage Home International for the Autumn Virtual RWHS. Hopefully all clear, but just to remind you that this is a very separate competition from live Windsor and the team members selected for 2020 will keep their place for 2021.
Thanks

Dear All I hope you are all keeping safe and well. After a recent zoom Committee Meeting, we are hoping to resume running rallies during August and will confirm the exact start dates by the end of July. Obviously, if at any time the Government guidelines change, this will have to be reviewed again. The dates will be put on the calendar for booking in the usual way and open for bookings once the start date has been confirmed.
There are strict rules which must be followed and these will be emailed to you all shortly. It will be lovely to see you all out and about again. Anne
Dear All,
Please see the message below from Helen Griffiths regarding dressage at the virtual Windsor Horse Show. More details will follow but you make like to alert your members.
"Dear All ,
I hope all is well with you and you are starting to enjoy a slightly more normal life !
I am sure by now you have seen the Press release from Windsor about their virtual Horse Show in September . Windsor are
very keen to involve the Pony Club Home International Team competition and for us The Pony Club to reproduce the very high standard of riding we demonstrated at RWHS 2019 .
It is a fantastic opportunity for the Pony Club and Pony Club dressage to reach a much wider audience.
The dressage committee and myself have been very busy to see if we can put something together ,and we have .
Firstly this is COMPLETELY separate competition from the "real" Windsor and there will be a virtual qualifying round in Mid August on grass judged by a panel of 3 British Dressage Judges . We hope that mid August will give Scotland and Wales time to get going .
The Teams that were selected for RWHS 2020 WILL keep their places for 2021 but they can all still enter the qualifying round for Virtual Windsor if they reach the eligibility.
The eligibility and rules will follow but I just wanted to let you all know that is exciting adventure with Virtual Windsor is going to take place for Pony Club Dressage .I will update shortly on how the qualifying round will work
Thanks
Helen "

It is with great sadness, due to these uncertain times and the restrictions that are in place, we are unable to run either of the Pony Club Camps this year. Naturally this will be very disappointing, but the safety of our members and their families is paramount.
All deposits will be refunded in due course.
We are hoping to organise some specific day rallies towards the end of the summer and will monitor the situation regularly and keep you all updated.
Senior Camp 2021 will run 24th – 31st July and the 5 day long Day Camp will run Monday 2nd - 6th August inclusive so some positive dates for your diaries!
Thank you for your understanding and stay safe.

Please see the attached entry form for this competition. I welcome any feedback. I will also need to ask a kind branch to supply rosettes for this competition, obviously not Southdown Hunt East who very kindly donated the rosettes for the Easter Bonnet Competition (a big thank you to Claire Fry for sending them out).

Dear Members, families, volunteers and staff, What a busy week at The Pony Club. We were pleased to announce the winners Mary King selected for our Easter bonnet competition. If you haven't already seen who's won, please visit our creative activities page and view the wonderful creations, as I mentioned last week, they are spectacular. We are now looking forward to watching the submissions come through for our Art Competition. We know we have many talented members out there and hope you enjoy our theme of Equestrian Hopes and Dreams. You have until June 30th to submit your work, so please visit https://artcomp.pcuk.org, for all the details on how to enter. Keep checking our Creative Activities page here. Riding We know the conversation on riding is a contentious issue, but we do feel it is important to highlight our guidance again. Our stance has not changed since the Government began restrictions and we remain aligned with the BEF and member bodies. We ask that you do not ride, unless it is necessary for the welfare of the horse or pony. We do understand that this is an individual decision and that you know what is best to keep our members and your families safe, as well as the best way to manage the welfare of your horse or pony. However, we should all respect the Government's message of 'stay home, protect the NHS, save lives', and carefully consider the risks associated with riding. As a community, we should not be putting any additional pressure on our emergency and NHS services. The Pony Club does not endorse any group gathering, online competition or activities involving jumping your horse or pony. Shared Resources We have been working hard with our branches and centres to ensure we offer as much support and guidance at this time. As part of this work we have created a collaborative space on Google Drive to post resources everyone can leverage. We have sections on Arts & Crafts, Badges, Quizzes, Pony Club Tests and much more. However, it has come to our attention that many of our volunteer network are part of the vital group of key workers supporting us in even more wonderful ways. Therefore, their time has been limited to make all our resources available to our members. In light of this, I would like to announce that we have created a member only area on our website, where you can get direct access to many of the resources shared on the Google Drive. We will continue to keep the area updated with new documents over the coming weeks, but we wanted to share the news as soon as possible. To access this new page please click here and use the password: pony1929. We hope this offers more support for members and we hope you enjoy completing the activities. We would love to hear your feedback on the area as we look to develop it in the future. To send your feedback please fill in our contact us form on the website. Online Safety As we invite our members to spend more time online joining our competitions, accessing resources, and connecting with their friends, we want to ensure everyone is staying safe. We have very robust safeguarding policies in place to protect our members taking part in Pony Club activities and now more than ever it is important to address keeping yourself safe online. I would encourage all parents to visit the NSPCC website where they share a raft of useful information and links to other organisations who can inform us all when it comes to staying ahead with the latest online risks to our young people. Looking to the future! It is still an uncertain landscape and the news can change daily, but at The Pony Club we are starting to look ahead. We are mapping out what our summer activities could look like under the current discussions around future restrictions. We want you to be assured we will do all we can to offer our members the best summer possible and we hope this will be spending time with our horses and ponies enjoying the sunshine. I will keep you up to date in the coming weeks when we can plan more concretely. Please continue to stay safe in these times and thank you for your continued support. Marcus Marcus Capel |
