Camp reservations for 2021

During "normal times" our dates for camps this year would be; Senior Camp Saturday 24th July – Saturday 31st August and Day Camp Monday 2nd – Friday 6th August.

However we are looking closely at numbers for both camps and may amalgamate all to run over the same week, likely to be the 2nd week, but this is not confirmed yet until we get final numbers.

I have received lots of names of those interested in Senior camp but would like to think there are more day camp members out there who have not as yet registered their interest.

If you are interested in camp or have any questions about camp, please could you let me know by this Saturday, 27th March, by emailing candyrobbins06@gmail.com or texting 0781 6580322.

Hopefully by the end of next week we will confirmed dates and costs etc.

Many thanks

Letter of our members - from Anne Cook, District Commissioner

Dear Members, Parents and Carers,
As the Government starts to ease us out of Lockdown, Southdown Hunt East Pony Club are excited about the prospect of resuming ridden rallies. We recently ran a series of Zoom Stable Management Rallies which have been very well attended and it's been lovely to reach so many of you virtually - but we can't wait to start seeing our members again in person.
However, I am emailing you all to tell you of some difficulties facing our branch of the Pony Club. For a variety of reasons, not least the impact of the COVID pandemic, our membership numbers have significantly declined. Some members have moved to neighbouring branches and some have not renewed their membership. This year our membership is lower than normal,  5 years ago we had over 200!
As your District Commissioner, I feel very passionately about the future of this branch. I have followed in the footsteps of my mother, Margaret Sheffield who was DC for 24 years and involved in the Pony Club for most of her life.
This week I met with the Committee and we have all agreed that we need to take action now to keep our branch alive for future generations. We have fantastic facilities and venues on our doorstep and we don't want our young equestrians having to travel to branches further afield.
But we cannot be the Pony Club branch we want to be, without the help and support of you, the parents and carers of our members. This Branch is yours and we need you to be an active part of it.
For this reason, the Committee are asking the following:
? Would you like to become a Committee Member and help shape the SDHE branch of the Pony Club?
? Could you become a rally or event organiser? We need people to come forward to take on the organisation of rallies in different disciplines, either as a one off or a series of events?
? Would you like to be involved with the organisation of this year's Pony Club Camp? We are hoping that residential camps will be allowed to go ahead this year and we need volunteers to come forward to be involved with the planning, organisation and running of camp. We want to ensure our camps are kept fresh and relevant and welcome your ideas and suggestions.
The Committee would very much appreciate you becoming an active volunteer. People are often worried about the time commitment but the more volunteers we have, the more evenly this workload can be spread. There are no paid members of staff in Pony Club Branches - everything is run by volunteers offering their skills, time and experience. What a branch can provide for its members is dependent on having willing and enthusiastic volunteers.
The Southdown Hunt East Pony Club values its members and we need you to make it the best it can be. Please join with us to make this Branch one that everyone in this area wants to be part of.
The Committee is currently preparing a survey to better understand what our members want from their membership so we can set priorities. We are organising some ridden activities over the Easter Holidays and will be asking our members to get involved online sharing pictures of themselves and their ponies on our private Facebook and Instagram pages. After this long enforced separation we want to start to get to know each other again!
For more information or an informal chat please contact myself, Candy Robbins, Polly Thom or Lorna Thwaites.
With best wishes
Anne Cook, District Commissioner, Southdown Hunt East Pony Club

Resumption of Rallies and Camps 2021

Following the announcement by the Prime Minister on Monday evening, it is anticipated that riding activities will be able to resume from 29th March.

All activities will run with our Covid secure protocols in place to ensure we keep everyone safe whilst we move towards normality.

We are waiting for a full Pony Club CEO update and should be able to share this next week.

In the meantime our rally organisers have continued to work behind the scenes arranging rallies for all ages and standards, as well as putting in place some very well attended zoom stable management sessions. Please check our website regularly for new additions.

CAMP!  In normal times our dates for camps would be; Senior Camp Saturday 24th July – Saturday 31st August and Day Camp Monday 2nd – Friday 6th August.

Until all resumption plans are known we cannot confirm exactly what we will be able to offer, but these are the provisional dates should you wish to plan your holiday around them.

It would be a great help with the plans for camps if you could e-mail Candy Robbins showing your interest in attending so we have an idea on numbers and age groups. candyrobbins06@gmail.com or to contact her if you have any questions.

If you are able to help please contact Kate Scorey by e-mail k.scorey@btinternet.com or call 07841 627591.

2021 - onwards and upwards!

Dear Pony Club Members,
If you are starting to think about your development in 2021, you might want to consider training for and taking one of the Pony Club Efficiency Tests. These tests enable members to learn progressively about horse and pony care and riding.

The tests are taken at recommended ages and in a specified order:
E Test (voluntary test for new members)
D Test (min. age 8 years)
D+ Test ( min. age 10 years)
The Pony Club Road Ride Achievement badge (this is a pre-requisite before being awarded the C test)
C Test (min. age 11 years)
C+ Test (Riding and/or Horse and Pony Care) (min. age 13 years)
B Test (Riding and/or Horse and Pony Care)
Lungeing Test (must have passed B Test)
B+ Test (optional)
AH Test
A Test

The syllabus for each test can be found on the Pony Club UK website:

Whilst we all continue to stay as safe as we can in Lockdown, there will be some remote rallies operating at the D and C Test Levels. Details will be sent out via email and Facebook. Ridden rallies will be arranged as soon as guidance allows and test dates set when sufficient members are considered ready to take their tests.

D and D+ standard zoom rallies

Zoom rallies with Angela Whitehead for D and D+. 23rd and 30th January at 4 pm.
These will cost £7.50 per person and a minimum of 4 needed to run.
I will also aim to organise some achievement badges in February to keep us all amused during these weird times! So keep eyes open on both Facebook and your emails!! Stay safe xx Kind regards Polly Thom

Pony Club Membership Renewals

You don't need me to tell you this year is rather different but in addition to coping as best we can with the pandemic, Pony Club have fundamentally changed the process of membership management from being managed by individual branches to centralised administration built around a new computer system called PELHAM.

Most of our existing members have a renewal date of 31st January and you should already have received an e-mail from Pony Club HQ inviting you to renew.  Memberships have now moved to a rolling 12 months so some memberships will fall due for renewal at other times of the year.  An advantage of the new PELHAM system is that memberships can be renewed online via the membership portal and payment made by card online.

If you expect an invitation to renew but have not received it please feel free to contact me at mike.nichols@btinternet.com and I will do my best to sort things out.

Obviously Pony Club activities have been curtailed and disrupted during the lockdowns and we were unable to run any camps.  Some have expressed the view that Pony Club should roll over the membership free of charge for a year.  Unfortunately a significant part of the membership fee is spent on providing the comprehensive third part insurance cover and this has been operative as normal.  Put simply, much as Pony Club might like to offer a free or reduced fee year it does not have the financial resources to do so.

If you do not intend renewing at this time I would appreciate a message to that effect as it will help the Branch Committee in making plans for 2021.

Wishing everyone a Happy, Safe and Prosperous New Year.

Mike Nichols
Treasurer and Membership Secretary.

The following is from Pony Club HQ and is included here for information:

All Pony Club memberships and renewals should now be made directly with The Pony Club Office at Stoneleigh.

INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIPS (those with less than 3 riding members in the same household).

  • If you do not have a "family membership" (usually 3 or more riding members in the same household) then you will receive 2 emails with details of how to renew via the new online portal.
    • The first contains the renewal reminder and membership details.
    • The second contains a custom link to the portal.  When you click this link you will be asked to enter a password.
    • This is a new online portal so create a new password.
    • You will then be asked to login with your username (the email address to which the renewal reminder was sent) and your newly created password.
  • Early renewal notices are being sent this year to try and phase out the renewal process for memberships expiring 31/1/2021.
  • A reminder to those who have not renewed will be resent the first week of January.  Thereafter, reminders will be sent one month prior to renewal date, and then 2 weeks before if not renewed.
  • Using the online portal, you will be able to check and update any contact details, and members and pay online.
  • You will not be able to change the branch or membership type (Riding or Non-riding) – if you need to do this please contact your branch to initiate the transfer process or contact membership@pcuk.org to change your membership type.
  • Memberships will be for a 12-month period from the date of expiry
    • If you renew in December and your membership expires on 31 January 2021 then your new membership will run until 31 January 2022.

FAMILY MEMBERSHIPS

If you have a family membership, or want to add members to create a family membership, you will need to download the membership form either from your branch website or https://pcuk.org/find-a-club/ complete the form and email to membership@pcuk.org OR by post to the address on the form.

Membership fees for 2021 remain as 2020:

Non-riding member £36; riding member £80 and family memberships £200 (up to 5 members in the same household).

Covid update and rallies - from Anne Cook

Hi I hope you all had a lovely Xmas and New Year and are staying safe and well. In view of the fact that we are now in Tier 4, the Pony Club guidance is that we can only have one member at a rally. Obviously this is not viable so we are cancelling all rallies in January. Hopefully things will improve soon. Lorna Thwaites has organised a C test zoom stable management rally on 14th January. Anne
