Lara Curtis

As some of you already know, branch member Lara Curtis was involved in a serious non-riding accident last week and is in hospital.  Her father has asked for the message below to be passed to all who know her.

Many of you will also know Liza Curtis, Lara's mother, who is our Branch Treasurer and Membership Secretary.  I will cover her role in the Branch pro tem.

Mike

"Last Friday, Lara had a serious accident in which her neck was broken and she was told that she would be paralysed from the neck down.  Lara was transferred to London and immediately operated on at a specialist neuro-surgical unit. Her operation went as well as everyone could have hoped and the prayers of family and friends were answered - Lara began to move her arms on request as soon as she awoke in the intensive-care unit. Lara has suffered no brain damage and is very much still herself, but she now faces many months of rehabilitation.  She currently has no sensation from her shoulders down, but she has already delighted specialists with her progress and it is far too early to know how much of a recovery she will be able to make. Everyone who knows Lara will know how tough and determined she will be in taking charge of her own recovery.

The coming weeks and months will be very difficult for Lara, her sister Annabel and her friends and family.  Lara cannot at this stage receive visitors, gifts or messages.  For messages of support for Lara which her family will share with her, please use the email account
laracurtis2014@gmail.com.  Messages may not be replied to, but they will help Lara as she continues her rehabilitation.

We appreciate you will also want to support Lara and her family, but could we ask that you allow them the space they will need.  As and when there is news to share, we will let everyone know and in the meantime, please do not bombard us with questions and please refrain from social media exchanges about Lara's condition.

Our prayers are now for Lara's fullest possible recovery."
